At Trinity, we embark on a partnership with the families of the College in the development of their children into young adults who make a difference in the world. Our students' parents and carers choose Trinity as a school that aligns with their own values and when home and school are on the same page, our young people receive a strong and consistent message of what it is to be a person who lives by the teachings of Christ.
Of course Trinity unapologetically celebrates our Catholic tradition, but no matter what spiritual belief or church you do or do not choose to align with, Gospel Values reflect attributes that we all wish for our children – compassion, kindness, patience, acceptance, love – and are at the heart of our mission. Inspired by Jesus, we make a difference, and we walk alongside our College families as they traverse the transition of their children from child to adult.
We are constantly seeking ways to improve the Trinity journey and provide opportunities for our young people to reach their potential in every way. As a Catholic school, we are fortunate to be part of DOBCEL and are offered fantastic consultancy and advice within the full gamut of managing a school, including pedagogy, curriculum, facilities, finance, staff, and the list goes on. We do not operate as a silo. We provide professional learning for our staff from experts and we belong to a global family of academic and spiritual institutions that constantly seek to make a difference in the world.
So saying, the concerns of our families and community are paramount in all our decision-making. Over the last week we held parent and carer feedback sessions that highlighted some areas we can continue to improve in as well as thoughts on what we are doing well. We will now present the findings of these informative discussions to our staff and also include in our strategic planning for future directions. We thank the families who participated and appreciate the time they took to provide such valuable support.
One point that was raised during the meetings was about the amazing opportunities we are providing for our Music students at Trinity. The College has devoted significant resources to this area over the last three to five years and we are certainly seeing the benefits of this investment. The Trinity Gala Night last Friday and the Semester 2 Music Night on Wednesday was a testament to the talent of our students in the Visual and Performing Arts and the passion and enthusiasm of the staff who are guiding them. The Arts has the power to bring together a community and evenings like these are a wonderful reflection of our College with friends, family, Colac locals and staff coming together to celebrate the achievements of our students and revel in their talent. On behalf of our whole community, I sincerely thank everyone who is involved in the Arts at Trinity.
Our musos also performed at our final assembly for the year on Tuesday. We had a number of special guests, including two Indonesian teachers visiting from our sister school, MAN 11 in South Jakarta. Bapak Indra Cahya Firdaus and Ibu Nurjannah Nurhjannah will be attending classes, sharing their culture and stories, and were warmly welcomed by students and staff. In addition, we invited Fr Michael and Mr Jack Leneghan to the assembly to thank them for the important roles they have held in the Colac community. Fr Michael has been Parish Priest of St Mary’s for 16 years and in that time developed a close connection with our school and built strong relationships with our people. Fr Michael has been a tremendous personal support to me, like he has for so many other people in the region.
Jack Leneghan will be finishing as Principal of Sacred Heart Primary School at the end of this year, a position he has held for 23 years. In that time Jack has seen thousands of students walk in and out of the school gates and there is no doubt he has made a lasting impression on all of them. We congratulate both Fr Michael and Jack on all they have done for the Colac community and wish them all the very best for the future.
With the Year 12 external examinations coming to a close early next week, the focus turns to our Year 11 students who commence their exams on Tuesday 19 November. We know that all our Unit 2 students will apply their best efforts in preparing for these assessments and ask them to reach out if they are concerned about any aspect of the process.
The last couple of months of the year always heralds staff change. As a Principal, I am always wary when someone walks into my office with ‘that look’, and it is a bitter-sweet feeling when colleagues announce their decision to leave. Last week Dr Adam Karpala informed me he would be spending next year teaching on Palm Island. This is a great opportunity for Adam and I am sure he will return in 2026 with lots of stories to share. Just as I was recovering from the news that I would need to find another Year 12 Physics and Chemistry teacher with Adam’s departure, Ms Cherie Butcher informed me that she had been offered a fantastic opportunity to head up the development office at Aquinas College in Perth, which is an all-boys Catholic boarding and day school in the Edmund Rice tradition. Cherie has had a huge impact on Trinity College in a short amount of time, leading our re-branding and ensuring our publications and website are dynamic and professional. We wish Cherie every success with her pending move back west.
Every staff departure is an opportunity for someone else to join our wonderful community and add to the development of our College into being the best it can be. Likewise, every new year brings a fresh cohort of students who become a part of the College’s rich heritage and on Thursday we were excited to meet our Year 7 2025 students and their families on Thursday afternoon at our Welcome Barbecue. This event provided an opportunity for families to mingle and get to know some of the staff who will be working closely with them over the year, as well as for the students to make new friends and spend time with their student leaders. It was a fantastic evening and we are all looking forward to welcoming them for their Orientation Day on 10 December.
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend with the weather offering something for everyone!

Trinity State of the Arts
Trinity State of the Arts
Trinity College Colac’s showcase of the Arts on Friday night was a display of student triumph with a range of productions, performance and 3D and 2D art pieces.
The Trinity College Gala Night commenced with solo and duet performances from Oscar, Jorja and Charlotte, Diamond, Anastasia and Indi and Michael in the foyer of the Jubilee Centre as families arrived and enjoyed refreshments served by students.
In the upstairs gallery, artworks were on display, highlighting an exciting range of thought-provoking sculptures and paintings from Trinity Visual Art students.
Our guests were then invited into the auditorium, settling in for a night of incredible entertainment that spanned soul-enriching vocal duets to the rocking sounds of Monochrome Rainbow and The Elliminations.
Our new Arts Captains, Logan and Biddy, were masters of ceremony for the evening, announcing the acts and swapping hats to join their peers centre stage as part of the performances.
The Junior Rock Band opened the live performances with some great tunes to set the scene, followed by a stunning vocal solo from Kieley.
Lola in Year 10 performed a beautiful self-choreographed dance piece that told the story of the emotional pain experienced from anxiety, and Jesse, Nat and Audrey gave the audience some fabulous harmonies with a wonderful song set.
Trinity Vocal Tutor, Ms Natalie Atkinson, lent her exceptional talent to sing a duet with Annie from Year 9, whose ethereal performance was outstanding and left the audience stunned before bursting into applause.
The fantastic new kids on the block, Monochrome Rainbow, showed off their developing skills with great drums and bass providing solid support for some impressive electric guitar riffs while Logan and Biddy harmonised on vocals.
The versatility was on show with our award-winning Vocal Trio of Kieley, Jorja and Logan showing exactly why they earned silver at the Royal South Street Eisteddfod in Ballarat earlier this year.
Our Vocal Ensemble was absolutely incredible with their acapella pieces that blew the audience away and the live performances were complemented with short movie productions from our Media students, Tara, Brooke and Caitlin, that certainly packed a punch with their messaging and visuals.
The Elliminations wrapped up the fantastic event with their toe-tapping tunes that brought the dance floor to life and highlighted the incredible talent and versatility of the Trinity Music students.
Congratulations to everyone involved for an exceptional evening that provided an incredible homage of the state of the Arts at Trinity College.
Final College Assembly for 2024
Final College Assembly for 2024
It was an emotional final assembly for the school year as the Trinity community bid farewell to two figures who have made an incredible impact on the students at the College.
Our Parish Priest, Father Michael, and Sacred Heart Principal, Mr Jack Leneghan, have played an important part in the lives of so many Trinity students over the past two decades and their absence will be keenly felt in the Catholic community.
Mr Leneghan spoke to the gathered students about a momentous decision to remain as Principal of Sacred Heart for 23 years that he does not regret as he enters into retirement. Father Michael then talked about the wonderful relationships that he has enjoyed during his 16 years as Trinity’s spiritual leader.
We were also privileged to welcome two very special guests from our sister school, MAN 11 in South Jakarta. Bapak Indra Cahya Firdaus and Ibu Nurjannah Nurjannah are visiting from Indonesia and will be engaging in a variety of classes to share their language and culture with Trinity students and engaging in pedagogical discussions with our Trinity staff.
The assembly was also the perfect opportunity for Colac police officers to talk to the gathered students about new laws surrounding the use of electric bikes and scooters. Senior Constable Stephanie Ward from Victoria Police implored students to be safe during the up-coming summer holidays by looking after each other and doing the right thing.
Mrs Kelly Kerr then presented the Muso of the Month award for August to Ben and for October to Indee, and praised the commitment of all Trinity musicians for providing a fantastic service of the arts to their community.
Our Director of Wellbeing, Mrs Natalie Holt, provided an update on the Trinity College uniform, providing visuals on the new design for the Sport polo and rugby jumper. The new style evolved through discussion with the Student Representative Council and will roll out over the next three years. You can find more about the updates here .
The special event wound up with musical entertainment provided by The Elliminations, who played at the sensational Trinity Gala Night last Friday night.
Uniform Update
Uniform Update
We are excited to announce new uniform options for our students, designed to promote school unity and pride. This update includes the renewed school crest, symbolising our values and heritage, along with new sports polo and rugby top designs that unite our students under a common identity and enhance style for active school involvement both on and off College campus. These changes were thoughtfully developed through the uniform committee with input from students, parents, and staff to ensure they meet our community’s expectations.
At Trinity, the school uniform is compulsory, promoting pride in our community and reflecting our culture of high expectations. The academic (or formal) uniform is meant to be worn on all non-sporting days and we are very aware that currently many students are consistently choosing to wear their sport uniform on a daily basis. As such, next year we will be aiming to enforce our uniform policy with students dressed in the correct clothing and accessories.
With this in mind, we have sought feedback from students and parents that prompted us to source alternative and comfortable long pants for both girls and boys. We have trialled some grey pants with an elastic waist in a rich cotton easy care fabric. They have proven to be popular but, with the goal to be comfortable and smart, we are also researching zip fly front pants in the same fabric. These will be available soon and we will keep you updated.
We have also examined other offerings in the uniform suite. While we have retained many current items, the consultative process arrived at the need to update several other items to a more contemporary, comfortable and cohesive design. The transition to the new uniform will be gradual, starting at the beginning of 2025 and rolling out over the next three years, allowing families ample time to make the shift comfortably.
ACADEMIC UNIFORM
When wearing the academic uniform, students must ensure their uniform is neat and correct, whether on or off campus. Students may wear summer or winter items across all terms.
When attending school excursions, students must wear full and correct academic uniform, unless otherwise directed by the staff member in charge of the excursion.
All items of uniform are sold from Borne Apparel and will carry the school crest, including the compulsory Trinity College Backpack. It is compulsory that all students wear these correctly monogrammed items.
There will be days such as College Photo Day, Open Day, celebration events and College Masses and Liturgies where students must wear their academic uniform, even if they have sport on that day. Students and families will be notified of this requirement in advance.
Whilst summer and winter items are interchangeable, the mixing of academic and sport uniform is not permitted.
SPORT UNIFORM
On days that include HPE lessons, sporting competitions and carnivals, students are required to only wear items from the sport uniform collection. In Year 11 and 12 VET and HPE classes, the sport uniform is allowed as directed by their teachers.
New sport uniform offerings include updated track suit pants, the new Trinity sport shirt that has more prominent Trinity branding and a new design rugby jumper.
The new College sport shirt still carries the appropriate House name and colour but with a greater focus on Trinity colours and crest to allow a much more cohesive look for our students when they are participating in external events.
TRANSITION PERIOD
We expect that many families will be looking to retain existing uniform items, therefore the transition to the new sport polo and rugby top will occur over the next three years (by the end of 2027). Our uniform suppliers, Borne Apparel, are here to help families get everything they need before the 2027 deadline.
We do understand that change can be challenging but we anticipate that our families will support the adoption of the new designs and understand the policy for students to wear the appropriate uniform is a part of the commitment they make when they become part of our College community, similar to the wearing of their sport club colours. We are very proud of our students, their achievements and their quest to achieve their best and believe that a cohesive and smart uniform reflects this aspiration.
Music Evening Showcases Skill, Character and Knowledge
Music Evening Showcases Skill, Character and Knowledge
