Principal's Message

Principal's Message

Principal's Message

The beginning of Term 4 has brought the same energy and activity that characterised the end of last term. As we enter the final weeks of the school year, we have much to celebrate, much to look forward to, and many opportunities ahead for our students.

I would like to begin by acknowledging Helen Haines (née Carew), a former Trinity College Captain in 1979, who was seriously injured in a recent tragic incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with Helen, her family, friends and all those affected during this incredibly difficult time. As a College community, we will come together in prayer for Helen at a Vigil on Wednesday 28 October, from 8.15am to 8.35am, in the College Chapel. Led by Father Andrew Hayes, the Vigil will give staff, student leaders, and members of Helen's family an opportunity to gather in prayer and reflection. We ask our wider Trinity College community to keep Helen and her loved ones in their thoughts and prayers. May they find strength and comfort in knowing our community surrounds them with care and compassion. As we continue to support one another through both the challenges and celebrations of College life, we are reminded of our community's strength and the importance of coming together in faith and solidarity.

I would like to extend my best wishes to all our VCE students as they begin their VCAA examinations. The examination period begins on Tuesday 27 October with English, and I know our students have worked diligently throughout the year to prepare for this important milestone. On behalf of the entire school community, I wish them every success and encourage them to approach each examination with confidence, knowing they have prepared to the very best of their ability.

This week also gave us an opportunity to celebrate our students' leadership and commitment as we commissioned our incoming Year 12 Student Leadership Team for 2027. I was incredibly impressed by the quality of applications submitted by all students who nominated for one of the 20 leadership positions available. We should be immensely proud of so many young people's willingness to step forward and serve their school community. Fr Andrew joined us for the commissioning ceremony, blessed their badges, and highlighted the service-leadership example set by Jesus Christ.

I am delighted to announce that Audrey and Izaac have been appointed as our College Captains for 2027. At Tuesday’s Commissioning Ceremony, both Audrey and Izaac delivered their first official addresses as school captains. Their speeches reflected maturity, gratitude and a genuine commitment to service. They acknowledged the outstanding work of our outgoing captains and thanked them for the example they have set for future student leaders. They also spoke about the importance of working together as a united team and shared their enthusiasm about the positive difference they hope to make over the next 12 months. I congratulate Audrey, Izaac, and the entire student leadership team, and I look forward to supporting them in their new roles.

We were also delighted to welcome back former student and 2025 College Captain, Olivia Roberts, who shared her experiences at Camp Weequahic in America with our students. Liv spoke about the incredible opportunities she has enjoyed, including meeting people from around the world, leading and supporting young people at the camp, and travelling to remarkable destinations during her time abroad. Her presentation highlighted not only the adventure and personal growth that come from stepping outside your comfort zone, but also the valuable leadership and life skills gained through the experience. The program has had such an impact that Liv has already committed to returning to Camp Weequahic in 2027. Liv encouraged current students considering a future gap year to explore the opportunities available through Camp Weequahic and has generously offered to share advice and guidance with any students interested in following a similar path.

The final term has certainly started fast. In just the first two weeks, students have participated in school cricket, our Media Showcase, athletics, tennis, the final day of formal classes for our Year 12 students and, of course, this week's Student Leadership Commissioning. It has been wonderful to see students embracing the broad range of opportunities available to them and representing the College with such pride and enthusiasm.

Another exciting development for our school community is the progress toward our next major building project. We are pleased to report that the project is moving closer to commencement. We have now distributed tender documents, and this week we invited prospective builders to tour the site. We anticipate appointing a preferred builder within the next month and hope to begin site establishment before the end of the year.

The project is expected to take approximately 15 months to complete. As with any major building program, there will inevitably be some disruption to our regular routines. However, careful planning will minimise these impacts and ensure teaching and learning continue uninterrupted. We will provide more detailed information to families once we have appointed a builder and established a confirmed construction timeline.

We are looking forward to another busy and productive term ahead. As always, we remain committed to supporting our students and families and thank you for your ongoing partnership as we work together to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive.

Prayer for Exams

Prayer for Exams

As our students prepare for and take their exams, we light a candle every morning at Trinity for their success and divine guidance. The glowing light represents our faith in their God-given abilities and offers a prayer to illuminate their hearts and minds when they feel burdened.

The Year 12 students will enter St John’s Hall next Tuesday as prepared as possible, with practice exams held over the school holidays and feedback from teachers providing vital information to help maximise their performance.

The Year 11 and 10 exams follow the seniors, and our candle will continue to offer a petition to God for inspiration during any doubts and uncertainties.

Good luck to all our students, and God Bless.

Loving God,

We pray for all students as they undertake their examinations.

Grant them calm minds and confident hearts.

Help them to approach each challenge with courage, to read carefully, think clearly, remember accurately, and express their knowledge and understanding to the best of their ability.

In moments of stress or uncertainty, remind them that their worth is not measured by results alone, but by the effort, perseverance, and integrity they bring to their work.

May they take confidence in the learning they have embraced, the skills they have developed, and the support they have received from their families, teachers, and friends.

Bless their preparation, sustain them through each examination, and help them to trust in themselves and in you.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Mother of Mercy, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever.

World Mental Health Week at Trinity College Colac

World Mental Health Week at Trinity College Colac

October is Mental Health Awareness Month, and with our VCE students preparing for their upcoming exams, all students moving towards the final weeks of the school year, and many consolidating their decisions about their subjects and pathways for next year, we felt the timing was right to focus on mental health and wellbeing. At Trinity College, we are committed to highlighting the importance of looking after both our mental and physical health.

Rather than recognising World Mental Health Day (Saturday 10 October) with a single event, we celebrated with four days of activities designed to give students practical and positive ways to support their wellbeing. Students had the opportunity to participate in yoga and breath work with Hope Carmody on Tuesday, movement and fitness activities such as boxing and rowing with Bluewater Fitness on Wednesday, an exam stress session for VCE students with Andre from One Movement on Thursday, and a community walk around the oval with Let's Talk Colac, Headspace Colac and the Colac Otway Shire Youth team on Friday.

Connecting our students with the wider Colac community was also an important part of the week. We always look for opportunities to welcome local organisations into our school, build their presence, and increase awareness of the services and support available to young people. Most importantly, we wanted our students to understand that looking after their wellbeing is a strength, seeking support is okay, and they are surrounded by people and organisations who are there to help.

Student Leaders 2027

Student Leaders 2027

We are proud to announce our 2027 Student Leaders. Each leadership role has defined titles and responsibilities, and every student leader is paired with a staff mentor to support and guide them throughout their role.

Tuesday morning, we celebrated our Student Leadership Commencement Ceremony, where our 2026 Student Leaders officially presented badges to the incoming 2027 leaders.

Please join us in congratulating our 2027 Student Leaders as they step into this important role of guiding, representing and contributing to our College community.

Oratory Competition

Oratory Competition

On the evening of Wednesday 9 September, the English Department hosted its annual Oratory Competition in the Jubilee Centre, celebrating our students' confidence, critical thinking, and public speaking skills.

Across three year-level categories, 14 students presented persuasive speeches to an audience of family and friends, alongside our judging panel. After progressing through classroom presentations and year-level speak-offs, these students demonstrated their ability to engage an audience, communicate their ideas, and speak passionately about issues that matter to them.

We also thank our timekeepers, Ms Caroline Paatsch and Ms Kate McCormick, for their valuable assistance in ensuring the evening ran smoothly.

Events such as the Oratory Competition give students valuable opportunities to develop their communication skills, build confidence, and engage thoughtfully with a range of contemporary issues. We are incredibly proud of all 14 students who took part and congratulate them on their achievements.

Defying the Drift – Year 11 Student Experience

Defying the Drift – Year 11 Student Experience

Recently, Anna (Year 11) participated in Defying the Drift, a program proudly sponsored by the Rotary Club of Colac Otway. The program provides young people with an opportunity to explore career pathways in agriculture and related industries, while developing leadership skills, confidence and a greater understanding of the opportunities available in rural and regional communities.

Through a range of activities, presentations and hands-on experiences, participants are encouraged to consider their future career options and the many exciting pathways available within the agricultural industry.

Congratulations to Anna for taking advantage of this wonderful opportunity, and thank you to the Rotary Club of Colac Otway for supporting local students in exploring their future pathways.

A word from Anna:

Defying the Drift program at Longerenong Agricultural College, or Longy, is a 3-day leadership camp. It is a program that helps young people learn more about agriculture, leadership and future career opportunities. It encourages students to stay connected to rural communities and explore different pathways within the agricultural industry. Throughout the program, we developed skills such as communication, teamwork, confidence and leadership, while learning from farms, agricultural businesses and people working in the industry.

The main thing I took away from the program was a better understanding of the different opportunities available in agriculture and how many different career pathways there are. Before doing the program, I mainly thought about farming as working directly with animals and machinery, but I now understand that agriculture also involves technology, business, leadership and communication. Visiting different agricultural businesses and learning from people in the industry helped me see what opportunities could be available to me in the future. The program also helped me build my confidence, improve my public speaking skills and become more comfortable sharing my ideas in front of others. I learnt the importance of teamwork, communication and listening to other people's experiences.

Overall, this experience has helped me think more about what I want to do after school and has encouraged me to keep exploring opportunities in agriculture, whether that is studying at agricultural college or taking a gap year to travel and gain new experiences.

2026 College Fees

A reminder to all fee payers that 2026 fees are to be paid in full by Friday, 20 November 2026, unless previous arrangements have been approved.

Fee payers using the direct debit facility should have fees finalised by Thursday, 31 December 2026, so you may need to make minor adjustments to achieve this. The Direct Debit Amendment Form can be used to make any necessary adjustments to the direct debit information. These fee payers are reminded that direct debit deductions will continue over the summer break unless the College is notified in writing to adjust individual schedules.

You may also need to increase fortnightly or monthly deductions for 2027 fees. This calculation and adjustment can only be made by the fee payer via the Direct Debit Amendment Form and is not automatic by the College.

Thank you.

Lost Items

Lost Items

At Trinity, we love seeing students reuse lunchboxes and containers. This environmentally friendly habit reduces our reliance on single-use plastics, minimises litter around our school grounds, and keeps plastic waste out of our waterways.

To ensure these items can be cleaned, kept in good condition and reused, we ask students to take their lunchboxes and containers home each day.

Several lunch items were left in the Year 7, 8 and 9 areas at the end of last term. We collected these and washed them on the final day of Term 3, and they are now ready to be reunited with their owners.

Students can collect their lunchboxes and containers from Student Reception and put them to good use again.

Thank you for helping us continue these positive sustainability practices at Trinity!

Trinity Computer Collection

Trinity Computer Collection

As we approach the end of the academic year, we remind families that all College-owned computers issued to Trinity students must be returned for an annual review and health check, to complete any outstanding system updates, and to undergo a ‘test and tag’ to meet our compliance requirements. We will conduct a thorough inspection to ensure all components are returned in good condition. Please return all components (computer, bag, and charger) to the College.

Students with unreported damage to the College-owned computer must contact the ICT department as soon as possible. As stated in the College Computer Loan Agreement, any damage requiring repair/replacement or intentional graffiti to computers will incur an excess charge.
