Message from the Principal
The school journey from Prep to Year 12 is a significant period of time that helps form the adults who will become the leaders in our communities. From learning to write their name to voting for the future of our nation, our children develop many of their skills and values in the classrooms of our schools.
Of course, parents and carers are the primary educators of these developing young people – their first teachers. At Trinity, we walk alongside our families on the sometimes rocky road of adolescence to guide and assist if necessary and we appreciate the support of our community as we challenge and encourage our students to be the very best they can be.
It’s not always easy to be a parent and we appreciate this. It’s not always easy to realise your child is choosing a path that perhaps you didn’t have mapped out for them. Perhaps they don’t want to go to university and you considered this essential for their education; perhaps they choose not to enter the family business and strike out on their own; perhaps you can’t see how they can support themselves by following their dream, and perhaps their passion will take them far away from you as they explore the world and decide their own future. As parents, it can be confronting to realise that we have raised our children to be independent, autonomous and resilient adults only to find they are!
But your home will always be their home; your fridge will always be their fridge! Your love will always be with them and, as our Year 12 graduands come to the end of their school years, now is the time to take a moment to enjoy their journey. Your family values, your blood, sweat and tears, your choice to send your child to Trinity, are a testament to the deepest commitment and service you can provide another human being. Congratulations to our Year 12 parents and carers and thank you for the privilege of teaching and guiding your precious children.
These thoughts all came home to roost when our newly appointed 2025 school captains recently phoned their families to share the exciting news. Hearing the pride of their accomplishment and the joyful responses from parents is definitely one of my highlights of the year.
The Class of 2025 commenced at Trinity in 2020, which was the first Year 7 intake of my principalship here. I have been with them through good times and bad, wins and losses, successes and disappointments, and observed how they have developed resilience, accountability, selflessness and social intelligence. Their achievements have been celebrated with perspective, the lows have prepared them for the more complex challenges of adulthood, and our Trinity Difference has supported them with our core values that reflect the teachings of Jesus Christ.
The appointment of our 2025 Student Leaders heralds the final school days for the Class of 2024 and the passing of the baton took place on Tuesday at a special commissioning liturgy. I would like to thank Fr Michael and the parents and carers for joining us at this event and to our student community who honoured the occasion with respectful attention as our leaders stepped into Trinity’s history books.
As our Year 12 cohort prepares for their final examinations, I would like to commend the students who undertook trial exams during the second week of the school holidays. The feedback received from these tests provides clear direction on where they need to focus their study for the actual exams that commence with English on Tuesday 29 October, although some students have already completed practical and language assessments before that date.
At Trinity, our staff is committed to preparing students for their final examinations and we are lucky to have so many dedicated and caring teachers. I can’t advise the students strongly enough to make sure they stay connected with their teachers once their formal classes finish on Thursday as the feedback and advice they provide is invaluable.
I also urge the Class of 2024 to make sure they remain in contact with the College after they graduate. As members of the Trinity College Colac Alumni, they are connected to a rich heritage and vast community and we love to hear from our past students. Our graduates can register their post-school contact details online in the Alumni section of the College website if they haven’t already.
Term 4 is definitely a busy one. We have already had students compete in the Greater Western Athletics carnival where a number performed at a high level and will now be invited to the state championships being held in Albert Park. There has been a plethora of activities already this term including tennis, basketball, cricket, a showcase of work from our Media students and oratory and academic competitions, and our students performed extremely well across the gamut. We will also be hosting a music extravaganza, our Year 7 2025 Barbecue and that’s not to mention all the exams and assessments that will be taking place. There is never a dull moment at Trinity!
I wish all our families a fantastic Term 4 and hope to see you at one of the events on the calendar.

Commissioning Ceremony for 2025 Student Leaders
Commissioning Ceremony for 2025 Student Leaders
It was a special day for our Student Leaders for 2025 as the College community gathered for their commissioning and stepped into the Trinity history books.
The 15 Year 11 students were selected for their positions with a thorough process that takes into account their commitment to the Trinity Difference and celebrates their outstanding service.
The special event commenced with a tribute to the rich heritage of Trinity College and the servant leadership that is at the heart of our mission and values.
Father Michael blessed the badges of leadership before the outgoing captains presented them to their 2025 counterparts.
Principal Mr Paul Clohesy spoke of the attributes of leadership, asking next year’s leaders to promise that they will reflect the spirit of Catherine McAuley and Edmund Rice in serving others through hospitality, mercy, justice and compassion for all.
The 2024 College Captains, Paige and Brady, then addressed the student body for the final time before our newly appointed Captains, Olivia and Kane, were invited to the lectern to formally commence their leadership roles.
Parents, staff, special guests and the 2024 and 2025 leaders were then invited to a morning tea to celebrate the occasion and provide an opportunity for guests to get to know the new captains.
Congratulations to 2025 College Captains Kane and Olivia, and to our Vice Captains Oscar and Jen. Congratulations also to the incoming College Prefects Henry, Charlie, Caitlin, Lily and Bailee; the eight House Captains Toby and Sienna in MacKillop, Jack and Taya for McAuley, Johnny and Bridie for Rice, and Jed and Lily in Glowrey, and our Performing Arts Captains Logan and Bridget.
Indonesian Sister School for Trinity
Indonesian Sister School for Trinity
In March this year we submitted an application for TCC to participate in Building Relationships through Intercultural Dialogue and Growing Engagement (BRIDGE).
BRIDGE School Partnerships is an innovative education program that establishes relationships between Australian and Indonesian school communities.
We are excited to announce that our sister school is MAN 11 (MAN – Madrasah Aliyah Negeri – translates as a ‘State Higher Place of Learning’), an Islamic senior high school for Years 10, 11 and 12 in South Jakarta. The school opened in 1997 and has 690 students with programs in Maths, Sciences, Humanities and Religion. There is also a language lab and a number of computer labs.
The BRIDGE program offers a sustainable partnership that aims to improve educational outcomes and positive attitudes towards our international neighbours.
Students from both countries benefit by improving their language proficiency and cultural awareness through video conferences. These exchanges also promote open-mindedness and appreciation for diversity.
During November, Bapak Indra Cahya Firdaus and Ibu Nurjannah will be visiting Trinity College Colac and participating in classes. We look forward to meeting them in person and making them very welcome!

Coastal Cricket Wins for Juniors
Coastal Cricket Wins for Juniors
What a great day for cricket! Our Year 7 and 8 cricket teams had a successful day against CSC in the SSV Coastal Cricket competition, with all our teams claiming victory.
Our Year 8 girls had a fantastic game, snatching several wickets and batting well. Their enthusiasm and support for each other reflected the final score of TCC 156 to CSC 82.
Their Year 7 counterparts had a nail-biting match against some strong bowling and batting from CSC but the exciting finish had Trinity taking it home by only seven runs.
The Year 7 boys’ team had a lot of fun on the pitch, finishing the day with a very respectable 86 to 55. And then the Year 8 boys topped off the string of wins with TCC on 4/120 defeating CSC 7/76. Top scorers were Seb (30 runs), Will (22 runs) and Sam (20 runs). Wickets were shared with six bowlers picking up a wicket.
Congratulations to all of our cricketers for their commitment to achieving their best.

Coastal Tennis Win
Coastal Tennis Win
Tennis anyone? Year 7 and 8 students were treated to perfect weather for the Coastal Tennis tournament in Lorne this week, joining their peers from Lorne and Apollo Bay Colleges for a day of friendly competition at the beautiful Country Club overlooking Louttit Bay.
Our Trinity players won all their games and are excited to proceed through to the next round in the competition, but it was their kindness and patience that received the most praise from the opposition. Our students were generous with their tennis knowledge and assisted inexperienced players with the finer points of the game, making new friends and ensuring everybody had an enjoyable day.

Bicycle and Scooter Information
Bicycle and Scooter Information
With the warmer weather approaching, we are anticipating that more students will be riding their bikes/scooters to school and we encourage this healthy method of transport with dedicated bicycle racks located behind the outdoor courts.
Please be advised that bikes/scooters and helmets should be locked at all times and the school will take no responsibility for any loss or damage incurred.
The fencing surrounding the bicycle racks is scheduled to be removed in the future due to safety concerns but we wish to make sure that students are securing their bikes/scooters and helmets with a lock and chain before we take this action.
Please make sure your student is provided with a chain and lock if they plan to ride to school.

Year 12 Exam Stress
Year 12 Exam Stress
Students in their final year of school are considered a high-risk group for depression and anxiety. Sleep deprivation, diet and social media are some of the biggest issues faced by this group of teens. Therefore it is vitally important that a student’s mental health is looked after as well as their physical health.
Keeping things in perspective for students and parents alike, can help prevent everyone getting overwhelmed. Although this final year is important, it will not be the most important year of your child’s life.
There are many strategies that students can implement to help themselves. Parents can provide support, not only emotionally, but also practically by keeping their child well-nourished and encouraging physical activity.
In this special report, parents will find useful tips to support their child during this often stressful time.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact Trinity School Wellbeing Department for further information or seek medical or professional help.

Study Strategy: Spaced Retrieval
Study Strategy: Spaced Retrieval
Spaced retrieval is the active practice of recalling previous learning at a point in time after the initial lesson. This uses the principles of cognitive science to help you consolidate your learning in long-term memory, so you retain the information for longer and are better able to apply your learning in the future.
