Celebrating Talent, Teamwork and Community Spirit at Trinity

Celebrating Talent, Teamwork and Community Spirit at Trinity

Last week, Trinity College was alive with energy, creativity and joy as our students took to the stage in a stunning performance of FAME The Musical. The production was nothing short of outstanding, showcasing the incredible talent of our students and the deep sense of camaraderie that exists within our school community. From the opening number to the final curtain call, the professionalism and passion of the cast and crew were evident to all who attended.

It was heartening to witness the teamwork and support shared between students and staff, which brought this ambitious production to life. Congratulations to every member of the cast and crew, you should be immensely proud of what you achieved. A special thank you goes to our Director, Miss April Greaves, whose vision and tireless dedication made FAME a reality. April was wonderfully supported by Mrs Grace O’Connor and Mrs Sarah Glennen, along with a host of others who contributed in countless ways.

Whether it was makeup, video and photography, welcoming guests, scanning tickets, building sets or managing backstage logistics, the contributions of our students and staff were vital. We also extend our gratitude to the families of our performers and to everyone who came along to support the show. Your presence and encouragement meant a great deal to all those involved.

In addition to the musical, we celebrated MacKillop House Day, a moment to reflect on the life and legacy of Mary MacKillop. Led beautifully by our MacKillop House Leaders, the liturgy offered students a deeper understanding of Mary’s selfless work and enduring message of compassion and service. Her example reminds us that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in the world.

This week, our students are participating in the Mindshop Excellence Program, an exciting initiative that connects them with local businesses to develop collaborative improvement plans. We thank our careers staff, Mrs Julie Demasi and Mr Ryan Geary, for their hard work in organising this opportunity, and we are deeply grateful to the generous Colac businesses who have welcomed our students and supported their learning.

Looking ahead, we invite all dads and significant male figures in our students’ lives to join us for our Father’s Day Breakfast on Friday 5 September, starting at 7.15am. It’s an excellent opportunity to celebrate the important role these men play in the lives of our students.

We also remind families about the upcoming Student Learning Conversations on Tuesday 2 September. These in-person meetings are a vital part of our learning partnership, offering families a clear insight into their child’s academic progress and goals.

Finally, while many of us are eagerly awaiting the end of winter, our Year 11 students and staff on the Ski Trip to Mount Hotham are hoping for just a little colder weather and fresh snow! This trip is a highlight of the school calendar, and we thank the staff for the extra time and effort they put into making it such a memorable experience.

As always, thank you for your continued support of Trinity College. Our community thrives because of the care, commitment and spirit of everyone involved.

Warm regards,

Mr Paul Clohesy

Science Week 2025

Science Week 2025

This year’s Science Week was packed with fun and curiosity! Students and staff tested their knowledge with our Science Week Quiz, explored science-themed books and models in the library, and got creative with the STILE colouring competition. We also had science-themed moving music - it was great to hear so many students singing the periodic table song by the end of the week! Congratulations to our quiz winners: Years 7–8, Samriddhi; Years 9–10, Lilli; Years 11–12, Tia; and Staff, Mrs Shani Gill.

The Year 10 Chemical Connection class have been busy planning their Independent Investigations, designing and performing an experiment to investigate how one factor affects the rate of a chemical reaction. Students were met with varying degrees of success (an important lesson to learn early on in Science) and are currently analysing their data and writing up their practical reports.

Year 10 Students Participate in Mindshop Excellence Program

Year 10 Students Participate in Mindshop Excellence Program

This week, several of our Year 10 students had the exciting opportunity to participate in the 2025 Mindshop Excellence Program, held in partnership with AKD Colac, Minerva Foods, and Spence Construction.

The program ran from Monday 25 August to Friday 29 August, offering students a unique chance to step outside the classroom and engage in real-world learning. Throughout the week, students worked closely with their host employers and Trinity College-based facilitators to explore a genuine business issue identified by the company. Using the tools and strategies provided by the Mindshop Excellence framework, students collaborated to develop and present practical solutions.

This experience is designed to build critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills, and we are proud of the way our students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and professionalism.

We extend our sincere thanks to AKD Colac, Minerva Foods, and Spence Construction for generously providing this opportunity and supporting our students’ growth and development.

Congratulations to all students who were nominated and participated—your commitment and creativity were outstanding, and we look forward to seeing how this experience shapes your future learning and career pathways.

Tom Represents Australia on the World Stage

Tom Represents Australia on the World Stage

At Trinity College, we take great pride in celebrating the achievements of our students, especially when those achievements take them across the globe! We are incredibly proud of Tom, a Year 11 student, who recently represented Australia as part of the ICF Junior World Championships Under 18 K4 500m sprint in Portugal.

Tom’s experience was nothing short of extraordinary. Competing against some of the best young athletes in the world, Tom and his teammates in the Junior K4 crew exceeded expectations, finishing 16th in the world and 7th in the B final, going two seconds faster than their goal time. This is a phenomenal result and a testament to the hard work, discipline, and determination that Tom has demonstrated throughout his sporting journey.

Beyond the competition, Tom shared that some of the trip's highlights included racing against elite international competitors, learning from an Olympic silver medallist, and forming new friendships with fellow athletes. He also spoke about the incredible support he received from the coaching staff, both during the training camp in Adelaide and while overseas with the Australian team.

Tom’s achievement is an excellent example of what can be accomplished through dedication and passion. His story is an inspiration to all of us at Trinity, reminding us of the value of perseverance and the joy that comes from pursuing excellence.

Congratulations, Tom, we are so proud of you!

Victoria School Netball Championships

Victoria School Netball Championships

The Victorian School Netball Championships run over 3 weeks, with schools from across Victoria sending their netball teams to compete on 1 of the 15 preliminary days. Each day consists of a round-robin style tournament. Teams could be scheduled to play anywhere from 5 to 9, 14-minute games in a day. Teams must finish at the top of the ladder by the end of their day to progress to the final day. After the winners from each age on all 15 days are determined, those winning teams attend the finals day.

On the final day, there are two pools of teams per age group. At the end of the round-robin format, finals are played between the top two teams from each pool in crossover semi-finals. A grand final is then played between the winners of the two semi-finals. The winner of the grand final is crowned the State Champions of the Victorian Schools Netball Championships. This year, Trinity sent seven netball teams to compete in this competition. On Tuesday 5 August, our senior sides, 8A, 8B, and Inter B, travelled to the State Netball Hockey Centre to compete. On Thursday 7 August, our Inter A, 7A, and 7B teams made the journey.

Tuesday 5 August

Seniors

The Senior team was scheduled to play six games and a bye across the day. They started strongly against St Paul's Anglican in round 1, with a convincing 19-5 win. Round 2, Carey Baptist was a much higher standard game, with Carey relying heavily on a very tall shooter to score well in the first half, resulting in a comfortable lead going into the second half. The Trinity girls responded in the second half, decreasing the margin, but with only 7-minute halves, the difference was just too significant, and Carey won 16-10. Trinity bounced back nicely with large winning margins in their remaining four rounds. They defeated St Francis Xavier 21-3, Beaconhills 23-10, Lowanna 17-8 and McKinnon Secondary College 20-3. They produced strong netball throughout the day; however, the loss to Carey Baptist placed Carey on top of the ladder, so the Trinity team did not progress through to the final’s day. Although they do not progress the level of netball, they displayed that they are in an excellent position going into the State Finals of the School Sport Victoria competition next month.

Team members: Tessah, Georgia, Remy, Liv, Kiara, Poppy, Mia, and Rylee.

8A

The Year 8 team had another fantastic tournament. They are a very versatile team, with all girls having the ability to play in multiple positions, giving us a distinct advantage when it comes to match-ups with the opposition teams. They played some excellent netball as a team and were rewarded for their efforts.

They played seven games throughout the day. It is not unusual to have a shaky start in these round-robin tournaments, where everyone is excited and a bit nervous, and with only two 7-minute halves, three turnovers can be tough to come back from. Our girls managed to keep their composure winning their first game against Catholic Ladies College Yellow 14-9, from here they didn't look back defeating Catholic Ladies College Navy 12-8, McKinnon Secondary College 14-1, Kilbreda College Red 14-8, Wesley College Yellow 13 –6, Sacre Coeur 17-4 and Ave Maria College 16 – 6. They advance to the Netball Victoria State Finals, to be played on Tuesday 9 September, at the State Netball Centre. Congratulations!

Team members: Stella, Scarlett, Livi, Ebony, Astin, Lila, Georgia, Indi, and Freya.

8B

The Year 8B team had a big day of netball, playing a total of 8 games. The girls were up against it from the start, with a couple of players unavailable for the tournament, which meant some players had to play out of their usual positions. This also made it difficult for the girls to implement systems that we had practised during training. All of that aside, the girls represented the school well. They came away with a couple of wins against Catholic Ladies College and Beaconhills College Berwick and lost by the smallest of margins to Mt Alexander College, going down 10-11. They had another close one against Wesley College, losing that match 11-15. Their last game of the day was against the top of the ladder, St Paul’s Anglican Grammar. The girls did well, staying equal with them until halftime, giving St Paul’s a bit of a scare as they needed to win to stay atop the ladder. They played some excellent patches of netball across the day, their full court defence at times making it very difficult for their opposition to score off a turnover, and they continued to work hard all day.

Team Members: Ava, Charli (absent), Claudia, Indiana (absent), Kitty, Layla, Matilda, Matilda, Olivia, Olivia, and Gemma.

Thursday 7 August

7A

Trinity’s Year 7A team played in 7 games in the Junior division, competing against Year 7 and 8 netballers from around the state. They were thrown into the day in a high-standard game against Avila, with the lead changing constantly throughout the game. It was 1 goal the difference following the centre passes for the final minutes of the game, and unfortunately, the Trinity girls were 1 goal down at the final siren. The girls were disappointed and motivated to play even better netball, and they did not leave anything to chance in the second round, beating Our Lady of Mercy 11-8. Their netball skills and connections on the court got even stronger over the next two rounds, with the team producing excellent netball to beat Geelong Grammar 16-11 and Bentleigh Secondary College 13-3. This moved them into second position on the ladder just before they faced the top-placed side, St Ignatius, a team of more experienced Year 8 girls. This Round 5 game showcased some exceptional netball from both sides, but the Trinity team demonstrated incredible control and a desire to win, which enabled them to intercept the ball all over the court and score effectively. Trinity earned a 14-11 win, moving them to equal the top of the ladder in a 3-way tie with St Ignatius and Avila. With two rounds to go, continuing to win and win well for percentage was the focus, and the year 7s handled the pressure perfectly. They went on to beat Hallam Secondary College 20-2 and Firbank Grammar 12-7 with clean, fast-paced netball. Trinity finished in a tie for the top spot at the end of the rounds, but unfortunately, Avila ended the day with a higher percentage, resulting in them advancing to the State Finals. The skill, control, and maturity of our Year 7A team were awe-inspiring, and we are excited about what this team can achieve in the future.

Team members: Norah, Alexis, Tahlia, Sophie, Milly, Ruby, Winnie, Jayla, Milli, and Natalie.

Intermediate A

Our Intermediate Girls A team delivered an outstanding performance in their latest tournament, securing consistent wins and qualifying for the Netball Victoria State Finals. The team showcased exceptional netball, applying relentless defensive pressure that created countless opportunities for our attackers. Every turnover was converted into scoreboard pressure, and our continual rotations highlighted the depth of talent and adaptability within the group.

Across the day, the girls triumphed over Geelong Grammar, Maribyrnong Sports Academy, Chairo Christian School, St Ignatius, and Horsham. It is an absolute pleasure to coach this group, and we can’t wait to see them take on the challenge of the State Finals!

Team members: Emmy, Izzy, Stella, Jess, Izzy, Georgia, Remi, Harmony, Molly, and Ashlyn.

Important Update: Non-Prescription Medication

Important Update: Non-Prescription Medication

Please be advised that, in accordance with the updated DOBCEL policy, as of Monday 1 September, our school will no longer store or administer non-prescription medications, regardless of parental consent.

This change is intended to ensure student safety by preventing medications such as paracetamol or aspirin from masking symptoms of potentially serious illnesses or injuries.

If your child requires non-prescription medication during the school day, you are welcome to come to the school to administer it directly. Alternatively, if you choose to send non-prescription medication with your child:

  • Please ensure only the required dosage is sent with your child.
  • It remains your responsibility.
  • It must not be shared with other students under any circumstances.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in supporting this important health and safety measure.

CCTV Cameras

CCTV Cameras

As part of our ongoing commitment to student safety and wellbeing, Trinity has recently installed new CCTV cameras in the hallways directly outside the bathrooms in both the Rice and Tuck wings. This decision was made in response to multiple reports of inappropriate behaviour, including bullying and vaping, occurring in these areas.

The cameras have been positioned to assist staff in monitoring these spaces more effectively, particularly during scheduled yard duties. It’s important to note that all installations comply fully with relevant state legislation, and no cameras have been placed inside the bathrooms.

This measure will help create a safer and more respectful environment for all students, and we appreciate the continued support of our school community in upholding these standards.

Year 7 and 8 Subject Selection

Year 7 and 8 Subject Selection

On Wednesday 21 August, our Year 8 students participated in a Subject Selection Presentation to support their choices for the 2026 school year. The session introduced students to the subject selection process and highlighted the various pathways available throughout their time at Trinity College.

Students received the Junior Curriculum Handbook , which outlines the subjects offered from Years 7 to 12. We hope the handbook helped support discussion at home around subject preferences and future learning directions. It remains available on PAM under Student Resources and our school website for ongoing reference.

Leading up to the presentation, students began exploring personalised pathways using the Career Tools platform during iLeap sessions. This platform helps build a student profile and tracks career-related conversations throughout their time at Trinity.

Students submitted their subject selections via the Web Preferences portal, which closed on Wednesday 28 August, at 11:30pm.

Thank you to all families for your support and engagement throughout the subject selection process. Your involvement plays a vital role in helping students make informed and confident decisions about their learning journey.

If you have any questions about the subject selection process, please don’t hesitate to contact a member of the Pathways Team.

Preparing for Term 4: Summer Uniform Expectations at Trinity College Colac

Preparing for Term 4: Summer Uniform Expectations at Trinity College Colac

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we approach Term 4, I kindly remind all families to begin preparing for the transition to our summer uniform . Ensuring your child is equipped with the correct garments not only supports our college’s standards but also helps students feel confident and comfortable as the weather warms.

Here are a few key points to keep in mind:

Check Uniform Items

Please take a moment to review your child’s summer uniform to ensure:

All garments are correct according to the College uniform policy . (see student planner for policy)

Items are clean, in good condition , and appropriately sized.

Any worn, faded, or damaged pieces are replaced before the start of Term 4. Borne Apparel in Colac is our supplier.

Trinity Hat

A reminder that all students are expected to wear the Trinity College hat during Term 4. This is a vital part of our sun-smart approach and contributes to student wellbeing during outdoor activities. Hats should be clearly labelled with your child’s name and in good condition.

Encouraging Responsibility

We ask parents to encourage their child to take pride in wearing the correct uniform each day. This includes:

Wearing the full summer uniform as outlined in the College guidelines.

Ensuring the Trinity hat is brought to school daily.

Maintaining neat and tidy presentation.

Notes are to be provided if there is an unforeseen reason that the correct uniform cannot be worn.

Uniform Breaches

Please note that students who are out of uniform without a valid reason will be behaviour tracked and repeat offences will result in detentions . This includes wearing the PE uniform on non-PE days . We appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations at home.

Your support in reinforcing these expectations at home plays a crucial role in upholding the values and standards of Trinity College Colac.

If you have any questions regarding uniform requirements or need assistance sourcing items, please don’t hesitate to contact the College Office and speak to Matthew Rathgeber or the Year Level Coordinator.

Warm regards,

Matthew Rathgeber

School TV Report - Anxiety & Young People

School TV Report - Anxiety & Young People

One of the guest speakers featured in this edition of SchoolTV is Georgina Manning, Director of Wellbeing for Kids. Georgina brings many years of experience working in schools, supporting children and parents to achieve positive social and emotional outcomes. As a national speaker on wellbeing, she regularly presents seminars for both parents and school staff. She is also the creator of Peaceful Teens, the program our Wellbeing Counsellors have been delivering to small student groups this year.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a natural and expected part of growing up. In fact, it plays a crucial role in helping young people prepare for challenges, stay alert to potential dangers, and adapt to new situations. It can motivate them to study for a test, practise before a performance, or tread carefully in unfamiliar settings. However, for many children and adolescents today, anxiety can shift from being a helpful response to becoming intense, persistent and disruptive.

The world in which young people are growing up is fast-paced and often demanding. Academic pressures, social expectations, family changes and the constant presence of digital media can all contribute to heightened stress and worry.

When anxiety is left unrecognised or unsupported, it can begin to affect a young person's wellbeing, learning, friendships and self-confidence. That's why it's so important for adult carers to understand how anxiety may present in children. Everyone experiences anxiety differently, and there's no one-size-fits-all solution.

This edition of SchoolTV raises awareness and provides families with practical strategies to help young people manage anxiety in healthy, constructive ways.
