Principal's Message
Life at Trinity College has certainly been full and vibrant over the past few weeks, with a wide range of academic, co-curricular, and community-focused activities shaping our students' experiences.
Our Year 10 and 11 students have recently completed their Semester One examinations, and it has been pleasing to see the commitment and effort many have demonstrated in their preparation. In addition, all students undertaking a Unit 3 & 4 VCE subject sat the General Achievement Test (GAT) earlier this week. This is an important milestone in the VCE journey and one that contributes to the broader assessment framework. While examinations can naturally bring a degree of stress and anxiety, it is important to acknowledge that this is a normal response. We encourage students and families to reach out should concerns arise, as support is always available. It is equally important to remember that examinations are just one aspect of a student’s learning journey. Success looks different for everyone, shaped by their goals, pathways and personal strengths.
Beyond the classroom, our students continue to embrace a variety of enriching opportunities. Our Year 10 students are preparing to undertake their Work Experience placements in the final week of term. This program is a vital component of our pathways education, providing students with valuable insights into the world of work as they begin to consider their future VCE subject selections. I would like to sincerely thank the many local Colac businesses that generously support this program each year.
At the same time, a group of our Year 11 students is about to embark on the Palm Island Cultural Experience, departing later this week with staff members Mrs Karen A Hart, Ms Louise van Dugteren and Mr Ryan Geary. This experience remains a highlight of our school calendar, offering students the opportunity to work alongside the staff and students of St Michael’s Primary School while immersing themselves in First Nations culture. It is a powerful and meaningful experience, and I commend our students for their willingness to live out our Catholic Social Teaching through service to others. I also extend my gratitude to the staff involved for their time, commitment and leadership.
Our Performing Arts program has also been in the spotlight. Earlier this month, we held our Semester One Music Night, showcasing the talents and dedication of our students. It was wonderful to see our Music and Drama students sharing their work with family and friends, and we look forward to further performances this week as our music students visit Mercy Place and Corangamurah. Opportunities such as these not only build confidence but also strengthen our connection with the wider community. Our amazing and dedicated performing arts teachers are to be commended for their commitment and the additional work they put in to provide these opportunities for our students. I want to acknowledge the work of Mrs Kelly Kerr, Ms April Greaves and Mrs Sarah Glennen for leading the performing arts program at Trinity College.
On the sporting front, our students have represented Trinity with great pride. Our Intermediate and Senior Football and Netball teams recently competed at the Greater Western level. I am delighted to report that both our Senior Football and Netball teams have progressed to the next stage of the State Championships. While this continued success is a familiar achievement for our Netball program, it is particularly exciting for our Football team, who have reached this stage for the first time in several years. Our Intermediate teams narrowly missed progression but performed admirably and should be very proud of their efforts. Our soccer teams are also in action this week in Ballarat, and we wish them every success.
Looking ahead, there are several staffing updates to be aware of as we approach the beginning of next term. We wish Ms Jess Van den Eynde all the very best as she commences parental leave and look forward to sharing in her exciting news in the coming weeks. Mrs Mali Robinson will take on the role of Year 7 Coordinator, which will bring about some additional staffing adjustments to support her in this position. There will also be changes within our VET Agriculture and Junior Science areas to accommodate these shifts.
Mrs Roslyn De Silva will be concluding her time at Trinity College at the end of this term. Ros has made a significant contribution to the teaching of Indonesian over many years, and we thank her for her dedication and service to our school community. We wish her every happiness in her future endeavours. Recruitment for her replacement is currently underway. Additionally, Mrs Beth Anderson will be commencing parental leave, and we also look forward to her exciting news soon.
As is often the case with mid-year staffing changes, there may be some adjustments to classes for Semester Two. While this can present challenges, particularly due to the natural flow-on effects across timetables, our priority remains ensuring continuity of learning with suitably qualified teachers. It is worth noting that changes at this time of year are not uncommon, particularly within our junior elective program. We will also be making some minor adjustments to Year 8 and 9 homerooms to further support teaching and learning, with communication from Year Level Coordinators to follow.
As this is our final newsletter for the term, I would like to thank all members of our community for their continued support of Trinity College. I wish our students and their families a safe, restful, and enjoyable holiday break, and look forward to welcoming everyone back, refreshed and ready for another busy and productive term.
Warm regards,
Mr Paul Clohesy
Principal

Celebrating NAIDOC Week
Celebrating NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week is a time for all Australians to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples while recognising the importance of connection, respect and reconciliation.
This year's theme, 50 Years of Deadly, marks 50 years of NAIDOC Week as a national week-long celebration, recognising five decades of strength, resilience, culture and community leadership. While NAIDOC's origins date back much further to the Aboriginal rights movement, this milestone provides an opportunity to reflect on progress while continuing to learn from the world's oldest living cultures.
Families play an important role in helping children and young people build understanding, appreciation and respect for First Nations peoples and perspectives. This Special Report offers practical ideas and resources to help families celebrate NAIDOC Week together and continue meaningful conversations at home.

Sustainability
Sustainability
We’ve been incredibly busy in the Sustainability space at Trinity lately, and thanks to some passionate students, we have achieved a great deal.
On Thursday, 4 June, 18 Trinity students attended a Student Environmental Leadership Summit, working with professional facilitators and joining forces with Colac Secondary College to develop their leadership skills in this space, dive deep into sustainability issues, and begin action planning for our school's sustainability priorities. These students represented our school incredibly well, contributing to group conversations, immersing themselves in the day's opportunities, and developing specific, meaningful actions for our school community. A group of Year 9 students also delivered a presentation on our Waste Reduction Plan, which provides multiple recycling opportunities at Trinity to reduce landfill. They communicated the data we have collected around this plan and outlined how we can further encourage the proper use of these bins.
On World Environment Day, Friday 5 June, the VCE VM students hosted another Waste-Free Morning Tea, which was thoroughly enjoyed by staff and provided a fantastic way for the College to celebrate our students' sustainability achievements. The event saw students plan and prepare a morning tea full of edible goodies made without single-use plastic, using ingredients purchased in recyclable packaging or fresh produce without packaging.
Wrapping up our World Environment Day events, congratulations to Homerooms 7C and 7E, which tied in the Homeroom vs Homeroom Nude Food Competition. These students earned the most points across the school during the competition week by bringing lunch items free of single-use plastic and promoting awareness of the impact of single-use plastics and littering. These homerooms will soon enjoy their pizza party prize in recognition of their efforts.

Intermediate and Senior Football and Netball
Trinity College students enjoyed a highly successful day of competition at the Intermediate and Senior Footy and Netball Day.
Our Senior Girls' Netball team was outstanding, winning all three matches to qualify for the State Final. The team defeated Timboon P–12 College 48–23, Ballarat High School 52–22, and Emmanuel College 27–24.
The Intermediate Girls' Netball team also performed strongly, defeating Timboon P–12 College and finishing second in their pool. They then narrowly lost their semi-final to Emmanuel College 19–18, securing an impressive third-place finish overall.
In football, the Senior Boys team narrowly lost their opening match to Horsham before recording strong wins against Brauer College and Ballarat High School. Their results saw them finish on top of the ladder on percentage and progress to the State Quarter Final on 18 August.
The Intermediate Boys Football team recorded wins against Horsham and Mount Clear Secondary College before going down to Emmanuel College 27–14 in their final match, finishing the day as runners-up.
Congratulations to all students on their excellent performances, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day.

Year 10 Work Experience
Next week, our Year 10 students will be taking an exciting step beyond the classroom as they begin their Work Experience Placements.
Work Experience provides a valuable opportunity to explore career interests, develop workplace skills, and gain insight into a range of industries and professions. We encourage students to make the most of every opportunity, ask questions, and embrace new experiences.
We are proud of the initiative our students have shown in securing their placements and have no doubt they will represent our school with professionalism and enthusiasm.
We wish all Year 10 students a rewarding and enjoyable week and thank the many employers and organisations who have generously supported this important program.
Year 10 ACU Ballarat Excursion
On Monday, 20 July, all Year 10 students will attend an excursion to the Australian Catholic University (ACU) Ballarat Campus as part of the College's Careers and Pathways Program.
The day will provide students with the opportunity to explore a university campus, participate in interactive workshops and presentations, and learn about the wide range of education, training and career pathways available after secondary school.
Whether students are considering university, vocational training, apprenticeships, traineeships or direct employment, the excursion will help broaden their understanding of future opportunities and support informed decision-making about their post-school pathways.
Further details will be sent via PAM.
Year 11 ACU Melbourne Excursion
Unfortunately, the planned Year 11 excursion to ACU Melbourne has been cancelled due to scheduling and logistical constraints that the university could not accommodate at this time.
We are currently exploring alternative dates and hope to reschedule the excursion later in the year. Further information will be communicated to students and parents as soon as arrangements have been confirmed.
