Principal's Message
This week, we join Catholic school communities across the state in celebrating Catholic Education Week. It is always a special opportunity to reflect on the vital role Catholic education plays in shaping young people, not only academically but also spiritually and socially.
Last week provided a wonderful example of this shared mission, as our Student Leaders joined students and staff from Sacred Heart Primary School, St Mary’s Primary School and St Brendan’s Primary School to celebrate the Eucharist together. Gatherings such as this highlight the strength of our Catholic community across the Colac region and the shared values that underpin all our schools.
Throughout the week, we have also acknowledged the important role Catholic schools continue to play within the wider educational landscape, and the care, support and opportunities they provide for students across Victoria.
Alongside these celebrations, we have also acknowledged National Reconciliation Week and National Sorry Day. This is a deeply important time in our national calendar. It provides an opportunity for all of us to recognise the rich culture and significant contributions of our First Nations peoples, while also reflecting on the injustices of the past. As a school community, we recognise that these moments are critical in helping our students develop understanding, empathy, and a commitment to reconciliation.
Over the past week, I have also had the pleasure, along with several members of staff, of interviewing current Year 6 students who have applied for enrolment at Trinity College in 2027. These interviews are always a highlight. They provide a valuable opportunity to meet students and their families, hear their aspirations and excitement, and begin to build the strong relationships that are so important to a successful transition to secondary schooling.
It has also been a busy and successful period on the sporting front. Over the last two weeks, our students have represented Trinity College with great pride in netball, football and the Greater Western Cross Country. The standard of performance has been outstanding, but most importantly, our students have demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, teamwork and commitment. We are very proud of the way they continue to represent our school.
A particular highlight for our senior students was the Senior Ball, held last Friday evening in the Jubilee Centre. It was a wonderful night, and one that I am sure will remain a cherished memory for our Year 11 and 12 students as they move through their final years at Trinity College. Events of this scale require a tremendous amount of organisation, and I would like to sincerely thank Mrs Jade Elborough and the Ball Committee for their dedication and tireless work in ensuring the evening was such a success. I also extend my thanks to the many staff members who generously gave their time to support the event.
As we move toward the end of the term, there is much to look forward to. Our focus in the coming weeks includes the Unit 1 examination period, subject selection interviews for Year 11 students, the GAT, and our Semester One Music Night, alongside a continued range of sporting opportunities.
Following up on the email sent to all families earlier this week, we would also like to remind families that roadworks around Pound Road, Hart Street and Armstrong Street will be taking place over the coming weeks, with some temporary road closures and detours expected.
We ask that all families please take extra care during drop-off and pick-up times and continue to use the designated supervised crossing points on Pound Road and Hart Street. Student safety is always our priority, and we appreciate everyone’s patience, support and cooperation while these works are underway.
It is certainly a busy and productive time for our students, and I thank our staff and families for their ongoing support in ensuring every student is encouraged to make the most of the opportunities available to them.

VCE Top Class
Tuesday, 12 May, saw the VCE Music, Dance and Drama students travel to Geelong to see performances from the highest achievers of 2025. This performance gave students a chance to see what they were aiming for and to hear the chief examiners' remarks on the criteria. Music students were able to see group performances and solos, and to see how musicians interacted on stage and brought the elements to life. Dance and Drama students could see the importance of becoming the character and how facial expression played a huge part in the performance.
Apollo Bay & Colac Secondary School Music Workshop Day
Concert Band students braved the cold on Monday, 18 May and headed to Apollo Bay P-12 for a day of music making. For some students, this was their 4th year of workshops, and they could reconnect with other musicians from previous years; for others, it was their first time playing in a 50-piece band.
Each workshop brings the 3 groups together to work on 3 new pieces as a large group, then in smaller tutorial groups throughout the day. They also choose some of their favourite pieces from previous workshops to perform in a concert for the hosting school community and family members in the afternoon.
Our next workshop day will be held in Term 3 or 4, either at Colac Secondary College or Trinity.

Time & Space
Time & Space
Our annual Time and Space event on Wednesday, 13 May, was a wonderful celebration of the special bond between mothers, mother figures and their children. The evening provided a warm and welcoming opportunity for families to spend quality time together, create lasting memories and strengthen connections within our school community.
Student Reflections
- I think it was wonderful considering that I got to share something sentimental with my mum.
- It was good to have a set time with mum where it was just her and me, and we could catch up and actually talk about Us for a change. It was good to ask those deep questions about all our Firsts and Lasts and how we both felt in a moment we both lived.
- I think that it was really nice. It made me come out of my shell and talk to people I didn’t know.
Parent/Mentor Reflections
- The students were a stand-out with their confidence & mature responses.
- Really special. This is my second Time and Space event, and it was just lovely to spend time with my young person.
- I love the opportunity to have time and space to talk with my child. It was so special. It was so lovely to talk with other adults and children going through the same experiences. What a special experience. Thank you.

VCE VM Excursion to the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court
VCE VM Excursion to the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court
On Monday, 25 May, the VCE VM students went to the Melbourne Magistrates' Court. The excursion was a valuable experience that gave us a real-life understanding of how the legal system works. Watching court cases helped us see the roles of magistrates, lawyers, and police in action. It was interesting to observe how decisions are made and how the court handles different situations fairly and professionally. The excursion also highlighted the importance of respect, responsibility, and adherence to the law. Overall, the visit was informative and helped connect what we have learned in class to the real world.

VCE Literature Excursion to the National Gallery of Victoria
VCE Literature Excursion to the National Gallery of Victoria
The VCE Literature: Units 1 & 3 students recently spent a day in Melbourne at the National Gallery of Victoria, where they attended a 'Developing Interpretations' workshop run by the gallery's educational staff.
This workshop invited students to explore different ways to read and interpret artworks in the NGV Collection, including pieces from the awe-inspiring Salon, where 19th-century images cover the walls from floor to ceiling. These skills will be useful in helping students consider historical, social and cultural contexts when analysing how meaning is constructed in the texts they are studying.

Sustainability in Term 2
Sustainability in Term 2
Term 2 is a massive time in Sustainability, with multiple major environmental actions throughout May, June and July.
May
Last week, Trinity participated in Laudato Si Week, which, across the globe, celebrates Pope Francis’ landmark papal encyclical ‘Laudato Si: On Care for Our Common Home’. Importantly, Laudato Si is addressed to every person living on this planet, not only to the Catholic faithful. He calls for an inclusive, urgent dialogue involving all of humanity regarding the care of our common home, environmental degradation, and climate change.
This year’s theme, ‘From Hope to Action’, reminded us that hope is not passive; that true hope is lived through daily decisions, community life, prayer and concrete acts of care. And at school, the theme inspired us to move beyond thought and partake in simple, hope-filled actions for the betterment of our common home. To mark the 10-year anniversary of Laudato Si, Catholic EarthCare, Caritas Australia, and the Australian Catholic Social Justice Council put together a specifically crafted educational pack for teachers across the Ballarat diocese, along with similar information for parishes. Students from Trinity College feature in a video which is a key part of the education pack, and it can be viewed at Catholic Earthcare | Celebrating 10 years of Laudato Si' in Australia | Videos & Movies on Vimeo
Further reading and a summary of quotes from Laudato Si can be found at Our Top Laudato Si Quotes on the Environment | CAPP-USA -“The climate is a common good, belonging to all and meant for all.” (Laudato Si’, 23)
June
World Environment Day is coming up on Friday, 5 June, and there are various opportunities for Trinity students to participate. We look forward to the third annual Waste Free Morning Tea, hosted by the Year 12 VCE Vocational Major class and there is a homeroom vs homeroom ‘Nude Food’ (food brought to school free from single-use plastic) competition running where students can earn points for their efforts as they aim for the winning prize of a class pizza party - pizza boxes, serviettes and food scraps being compostable in the Colac Otway Shire. The Year 9 members of the Junior Sustainability Group have put great effort into creating an environmentally themed ‘scavenger hunt’ activity where students can form their own small groups and race around to earn reusable lunchbox and drink bottle prizes. And if we weren’t busy enough, a group of students from Years 7-10, including our Justice and Solidarity leaders, will attend the Student Environmental Leadership Summit hosted by the Colac Otway Shire and facilitated by CERES School of Nature and Climate.
July
Plastic Free July is coming up and is a fantastic educational initiative that challenges people to utilise suitable alternatives to single-use plastic. More to come on Plastic Free July in future newsletters.

After a very wet week and morning of the Cross Country, the weather cleared, and we had a dry afternoon for our House Cross Country Run. Well done to all of our students who competed and supported their House on the day. Congratulations also to those students who made it through to the Greater Western Championships in Warrnambool on Tuesday, 26 May. The top 8 runners from each age group go through to the Greater Western Championships. The exception is the seniors, who incorporate the top 8 from the 17-20 age group.

Our students really pushed themselves and achieved some fantastic results. Our fastest male runner for the day was Izaac (Year 11). He completed the 5km course in 16 minutes and 16 seconds, 2 seconds faster than Jack's (Class of 2025) time last year. Our fastest female runner of the day was Eliza (Year 12), with a time of 21 minutes and 23 seconds. Eliza defeated last year’s winner, Ruby (Year 8), by 6 seconds. Congratulations to all of our competitors, and best of luck at the Greater Western Championships.
The results were very close.

Now available on SchoolTV - Dealing with Conflict
Conflict is a natural and unavoidable part of family life. As children grow, differences in opinions, emotions and expectations can sometimes lead to tension at home, at school or with peers. While these moments can feel challenging, they also present valuable opportunities to teach young people important life skills. How conflict is managed within the family plays a key role in shaping a child’s ability to communicate, regulate emotions and navigate relationships.
For adult carers, supporting children through conflict means staying calm, listening with empathy and modelling respectful problem-solving. When handled constructively, conflict can strengthen relationships, build resilience and help children develop the confidence to manage disagreements in healthy and productive ways.
This edition of SchoolTV explores practical strategies to help families approach conflict with greater understanding and confidence.

Our Year 7 students recently participated in an engaging and informative Cyber Safety session presented by Senior Constable Steph Ward from the Victoria Police. The presentation explored the importance of staying safe online and provided students with practical strategies for navigating the digital world responsibly. As technology continues to play an important role in young people's lives, developing strong cyber safety habits is essential. We encourage families to continue these conversations at home and to explore the resources below together.
We thank Senior Constable Steph Ward for sharing her expertise and helping our students become safer, more informed digital citizens.
