Why don't school jumpers ever get lonely?
Because they're always getting picked up!
As a Catholic school, we are deeply aware of the spiritual moments that shape our faith and community. Following the recent passing of Pope Francis, a man much loved for his humility, compassion, and leadership, we experienced a collective sense of loss. However, as Catholics, we are also people of hope and renewal. It is with great joy that we now celebrate the election of our new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV. We are particularly heartened to learn of his passionate commitment to unity within the Church, peace among nations, and social justice for all. These are values that resonate deeply within our Trinity College community, and we look forward to his leadership with great anticipation.
On a local level, I would like to thank all families who attended our recent Student Learning Conversations. Your presence and engagement in these conversations play a vital role in strengthening the partnership between home and school. This collaboration is essential to achieving the best possible learning outcomes for our students, and we are grateful for your continued support.
Earlier this month, we marked Mother’s Day with a special morning tea here at Trinity College. It was a beautiful and well-attended event that acknowledged and celebrated the incredible role mothers and significant women play in the lives of our students. I hope that all in our community were able to spend meaningful time with loved ones and felt honoured on this special day.
Our students and staff have been involved in a plethora of sporting events recently, and I would like to commend them for their commitment and the admirable way in which they have represented Trinity. In particular, I received a heartfelt note of thanks from the Principal of Apollo Bay P–12 College, expressing gratitude to our students who stepped up to fill in on their senior football team. Their contribution allowed Apollo Bay students to participate in the Coastal competition—an outstanding example of sportsmanship and solidarity.
Meanwhile, a group of our talented music students went on camp this week, performing at various locations and promoting the spirit of Trinity College in surrounding communities. A sincere thank you to Mr Stephen Gill and Mrs Grace O’Connor for leading this initiative and providing our students with such a valuable and enriching experience.
I am also pleased to report that our search for a new Deputy Principal has progressed well. We were fortunate to attract a highly competitive field of applicants, and the first round of interviews has now concluded. I look forward to announcing the successful applicant in our next newsletter.
Finally, we are excited about the upcoming Senior Ball tonight. This special event is a cherished tradition at Trinity, and we are delighted to welcome Year 12 parents to join us for the first part of the night. It is always a joy to see our students dressed in their finest and ready for a night of celebration and dancing. A gentle reminder to all families that students are expected to stay for the entirety of the evening and will not be permitted to leave the hall once they have arrived.
As our region continues to face prolonged dry conditions, many farming families are experiencing significant challenges due to the lack of rain. The impact of the drought is being felt deeply across our community, affecting livelihoods and wellbeing. At Trinity College, we want to reassure all families that we are here to support you. If your household is experiencing financial hardship due to the drought or any other issue, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our school is committed to providing assistance and ensuring that every student and their family continues to feel safe, supported, and included during these difficult times.
Thank you once again for your support and the role you play in making Trinity College a thriving community.
Warm regards,
Mr Paul Clohesy
Principal
What a beautiful morning it was as we gathered to celebrate the incredible mothers and mother figures in our community. The atmosphere was warm and joyful, filled with love, laughter, and heartfelt moments. Our talented students set the tone with beautiful musical performances that brought smiles to everyone’s faces. Two students delivered touching speeches, sharing heartfelt stories and expressing their deep gratitude for their mums — a moment that moved many to tears.
Guests enjoyed a delightful spread of food, thoughtfully prepared and served with care. But above all, it was the company that made the morning truly special — a wonderful celebration of the love, strength, and kindness that mothers bring to our lives every day.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this event so memorable.
Over 60 enthusiastic music students and staff from Apollo Bay P-12 College, Colac Secondary College and Trinity College came together on Monday for a day filled with music, teamwork and creativity. The combined group worked on 12 songs, including three newer additions that students had only begun rehearsing in recent weeks.
Favourites such as Thriller , Viva La Vida , YMCA , and the 1812 Overture brought energy and excitement, while newer pieces like Wellerman , Imagine ,and Pirates of the Caribbean showcased the students’ adaptability and passion.
Spanning ages 10 to 18, the students embraced the chance to connect with peers from other schools, improve their musical skills, and celebrate their shared love of music in a fun and inspiring environment.
The next Music Workshop Day is scheduled for September in Apollo Bay.

The Trinity Chess team travelled to the Interschool Tournament at St Joseph’s College in Geelong to play on Friday 9 May. It was an exciting day full of strategy and close competition.
The competition comprised seven intense rounds against the strongest chess players from schools in our region. In an impressive team effort, Trinity College tussled for position with Geelong Grammar and Ballarat High School all day. The final round decided the rank by a small margin, placing us 5th overall out of the eight competing teams.
Special congratulations go to our Chess Caption, Oliver (Year 12) for winning 6 of his 7 games against the top contenders. This placed him with two other players on 6 points, with the winner on 6.5 points. Oliver took the gold medal in the senior category and earned a place in the State Championships in October. Brent (Year 12) was our second-highest ranked player from Trinity.
We were proud to have taken a team representing a wide age range, comprising:
Year 12 - Oliver, Oscar, Keegan, Brent and Ryley
Year 10 - Henry
Year 8 - Leo
Year 7 – Lorenzo Zendric, Felix and Tarik
Our youngest players performed well despite their lack of experience at the Secondary level and their focus under pressure was outstanding. It is amazing to see the emerging talent at Trinity, which bodes well for the future of chess at our school.
This day was made possible due to the support of Ms Libby Ryan and Mrs Josie Barber, who provided support and encouragement throughout the day for all players.
Come along and try the Trinity Chess Club; it is open to all students, whether experienced or just curious to learn. Enjoy the game and be part of a supportive team growing in skill. Friendly competitions occur each Tuesday in the Resource Centre at Break 1.

We had another great day for our Cross Country event on Thursday 8 May. Our students pushed themselves and achieved some fantastic results. Our fastest male runner for the day was Jack (Year 12), yet again. He completed the 5km course in a time of 16 minutes and 18 seconds, which is 12 seconds faster than his time last year. Our fastest female runner for the day was Ruby (Year 7) in a time of 21 minutes and 26 seconds. Ruby defeated last year’s winner Harmony (Year 10), by 24 seconds.
Even though we only have one age group champion, there were many students who just missed out by seconds or a few minutes. The top eight competitors in each age group will have the opportunity to represent Trinity College and compete at the Greater Western Championships in Warrnambool on Monday 26 May.
We will hold off announcing which House has won the overall Cross Country until our next assembly.

Thursday 5 June is World Environment Day ; an event which is the world's largest platform for environmental outreach, aiming to raise global awareness and encourage action on environmental issues. This year’s theme, “Ending global plastic pollution”, asks us all to think carefully about our use of plastic and challenges us to utilise suitable alternatives to reduce our impact on the environment. Plastic pollution permeates every corner of the planet—even in our bodies in the form of microplastics. World Environment Day 2025 calls for collective action from all of us to tackle plastic pollution. By drawing inspiration from nature and showcasing real-world solutions, the campaign will encourage individuals, organisations, industries, and governments to adopt sustainable practices that drive systemic change.
What is happening at Trinity College?
Multiple events will be happening at Trinity to acknowledge World Environment Day and all that it stands for.
Prior to the day…
Students are invited and encouraged to participate in the competitions on offer and can contribute to the World Environment Day display in the Resource Centre.
For our major competition, students are encouraged to show their own actions towards ending global plastic pollution, in photo format, with an accompanying written explanation. All details are accessible to students on SIMON Daily Communicator and to parents on PAM. There are some fantastic, environmentally friendly reusable food containers and lunch items to win.
On the day, Thursday 5 June…
Trinity students and staff are asked to challenge themselves (and those at home) to bring food items on this day that are free of single-use plastics, helping to acknowledge our collective potential to make a big difference with little changes. Spot prizes to be won.
The Vocational Major class will host our Waste-Free Morning Tea by planning and facilitating an event for Year 12s and staff without any materials going to landfill.
The school will participate in a collective clean-up symbolising our commitment to shared action to support and respect our environment.
And of course, everyone can participate in World Environment Day outside of school, by taking any positive actions to help our environment. There is such a large variety of environmentally friendly ideas and credible resources on the internet. These can be as simple as ensuring all unused appliances are turned off, separating rubbish from recyclable materials or monitoring water usage around your house.
