Welcome to our first newsletter for Term 2. I hope that all our students and families enjoyed a wonderful Easter break and had the opportunity to rest and recharge ahead of a busy and exciting term. It has certainly been a full and energetic start, with a great deal already happening across the school community, and I would like to highlight some of these events.
In our first week back, forty-five of our Year 10 students, accompanied by five staff members, undertook our much-anticipated Top End Tour. Travelling from Colac to Darwin over two weeks, the group experienced an incredible journey filled with learning, adventure and personal growth. I am very pleased to report that the trip was an outstanding success and was thoroughly enjoyed by both students and staff. Throughout the tour, our students represented their families and the school with distinction, demonstrating maturity, respect and enthusiasm at every stage. The red-eye flight home last Friday brought back some very tired travellers, but also many wonderful memories. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the staff who led and supported this tour: Ms Sarah Borch, who did an exceptional job coordinating the trip, along with Ms Karen Hart, Mr David Boddy, Mrs Emma O’Dwyer and past staff member Mr Des Ryan.
In Week 2, our Year 9 students headed out on their camp, which adopted a refreshed format this year and proved to be a great success. Students enjoyed a diverse program of activities, including the unforgettable experience of swimming with dolphins and seals. They also travelled by ferry from Port Arlington to Docklands, where they spent a full day exploring Melbourne. Highlights of the city experience included visits to Collingwood and North Melbourne training sessions, the Sports Museum at the MCG, the Police Museum, Parliament House, St Patrick’s Cathedral and the Supreme Court. The camp was expertly organised by Mr Jeremy Barren, and our new Year 9 Coordinator, Mr Rob Elborough, ensured it ran smoothly and that all students were safe and well supported. The camp was made possible by the commitment of many teaching and non-teaching staff who generously gave their time. My sincere thanks to all who provided this valuable experience for our students.
During Week 1, our Year 7 and 8 students participated in their Reflection Days. The Youth Mission Team led students through a variety of engaging activities designed to encourage personal reflection, connection and growth. It was pleasing to see the high level of student involvement, who embraced the day and clearly enjoyed the experience.
There have been a number of staffing changes at the beginning of Term 2. We congratulate Mrs Grace O’Connor and Mrs Jessica Driscoll, who have both commenced parental leave, and we wish them all the very best during this special time. Ms Libby Ryan has also begun Long Service Leave for the remainder of the year. Several staff have stepped into new roles: Mr Rob Elborough has taken on the Year 9 Coordinator position, Mrs Casey Kelly is leading the Science domain, and Mrs Josie Barber has assumed the role of Resource Centre Coordinator. We also welcome a new member to our staff, Mr Mohammed Faiyaz, who joins us as a Wood/Mathematics teacher.
Our Student Learning Conversations took place on Wednesday this week. This event is a vital component of our partnership with families, providing an important opportunity for parents and carers to gain a clear understanding of their child’s progress so far this year. I thank our families for their strong support and engagement in this process.
The college recognised and celebrated ANZAC Day on Friday, 24 April. Joining us for this important occasion were Colac Mayor, Mr Jason Schram, State Member for Polwarth and former student, Mr Richard Riordan and Bruce Bennett from the Colac RSL. This year, we were also delighted to have Andrew Currie with us, complete with his WWII bugle to play the Last Post. 15 student leaders from Years 7-10 also took part in the All Schools ANZAC Day Service earlier on the day, and School Captain, Mia, along with Glowrey House Captain, Banjo, took part in the Colac dawn service in Memorial Square.
Finally, this Friday, we were delighted to host our Mother’s Day Morning Tea, celebrating the important role mothers and other significant female role models play in our students' lives. I thank all who attended for taking the time to be part of this special occasion, and I wish all our mums a very happy and well-deserved Mother’s Day this Sunday.
It has been a fantastic start to the term, and I look forward to all that lies ahead.
Warm regards,
Mr Paul Clohesy

Professional Learning Day for Staff
Professional Learning Day for Staff
Last term, the teaching and learning support staff spent a day with Brother Damien Price to explore the Charism of Blessed Edmund Rice. Through his presentation, which examined the teachings of Jesus Christ and the legacy of one of our college's founders, Br. Damien invited staff to reflect on the power of story to unite us by celebrating our shared humanity. Staff left with a renewed determination to ensure that Trinity College is a place where each person is seen and their story heard, where their worth and dignity are recognised and celebrated.

Year 7 & 8 Reflection Days
Year 7 & 8 Reflection Days
Opportunities for our students to escape from the demands of their daily lives to reflect on their personal and spiritual journeys are excellent opportunities for self-development. Over the course of two days earlier this term, the Youth Mission Team worked with our Year 7 and Year 8 students through a series of interactive workshops in which they considered the power of good relationships and the importance of a positive self-image.

Year 7 Students Share Their Reflection Day Experience
Year 7 Students Share Their Reflection Day Experience
Last Wednesday, our Year 7 students took part in a meaningful and engaging Reflection Day centred on the theme of self-image. The day was led by the Youth Mission Team, who guided students through a range of activities and discussions.
Reflecting on the day, two Year 7 students, Chloe and Tina, shared, “We played a series of different games, the theme was self-image. We played a game called Jokey and a game of trivia.” Their words capture the energy and enjoyment experienced throughout the activities.
A highlight for many was the series of performances, which explored different aspects of self-image. As the students described, “They did little performances. There was one about how a girl had to go up on stage, and others kept changing her, then one person came and made her be herself.” These performances encouraged students to think more deeply about identity and the importance of authenticity.
The day also included opportunities for students to connect with one another. “We did a get-to-know-you game where you had to go around and talk to different people,” they explained, highlighting how the activities helped build new friendships and confidence.
Summing up their experience, the students reflected, “We learnt that everyone was different and that it was good to meet/talk to new people.” This message sat at the heart of the day, reminding students of the value of embracing individuality and forming meaningful connections.

Blaze Aid Volunteering: VCE-VM Students Support Bushfire Recovery in Gellibrand
Blaze Aid Volunteering: VCE-VM Students Support Bushfire Recovery in Gellibrand
On Friday 27 March, Year 12 VCE-VM students spent a day volunteering with Blaze Aid, supporting communities affected by bushfires in Gellibrand.
Working as a team alongside the property owner and Blaze Aid Coordinator Steve Matthews, 11 students helped remove 240 metres of burnt-out fencing and installed 200 metres of new fencing. They cleared fence lines, removed damaged posts, recycled usable wire, rolled barbed wire, and learned how to tension and secure new fencing.
This hands-on experience allowed students to develop practical skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the impact of bushfires. It also highlighted the importance of community, resilience, and supporting others in times of need. We are proud of our students for their effort and willingness to give back and make a positive difference.

Mother's Day 2026
Mother's Day 2026
What a beautiful morning it was as we gathered to celebrate the incredible mothers and mother figures in our community. The atmosphere was warm and joyful, filled with love, laughter, and heartfelt moments. Our talented students set the tone with beautiful musical performances that brought smiles to everyone’s faces. Students delivered touching speeches, sharing heartfelt stories and expressing their deep gratitude for their mums.
Guests enjoyed a delightful spread of food, thoughtfully prepared and served with care, while our VM students proudly showcased their barista skills by preparing coffees for guests throughout the morning. But above all, it was the company that made the morning truly special, a wonderful celebration of the love, strength, and kindness that mothers bring to our lives every day.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this event so memorable.

Year 10 Top End Camp: An Unforgettable Adventure
Year 10 Top End Camp: An Unforgettable Adventure
Our Year 10 Top End Camp has once again proven to be an extraordinary highlight of the year, offering students a truly unique opportunity to explore some of Australia’s most iconic landscapes while building lasting friendships and life skills.
The journey began with great excitement as students flew into the heart of Australia, Uluru, where the vast red desert landscape immediately set the tone for the adventure ahead. From there, students embarked on an incredible 11-night journey by bus, travelling all the way through the Northern Territory to Darwin, experiencing the rich diversity of Australia’s natural environment along the way.
Throughout the camp, students embraced every opportunity to immerse themselves in the outdoors. They explored breathtaking national parks, took part in scenic walks, and cooled off in beautiful natural waterholes. Each destination offered its own sense of wonder and discovery, encouraging students to step outside their comfort zones and fully engage with the environment around them.
A key feature of the camp was the opportunity to deepen students’ understanding of Australia’s cultural heritage. Visits to cultural centres provided meaningful insights into First Nations histories and traditions, enriching the overall experience and fostering a strong sense of respect and appreciation.
Beyond the landscapes and activities, one of the most valuable aspects of the Top End Camp was the strong sense of community that developed among students. Living and travelling together for nearly two weeks required teamwork, resilience, and cooperation. Students worked collaboratively to set up and pack down campsites each day, demonstrating growing independence and responsibility. These shared tasks, combined with group night activities, created countless moments of laughter, connection, and camaraderie.
Evenings were a highlight, with students coming together after full days of adventure to participate in group activities under the stars. These moments not only provided time to reflect on the day’s experiences but also strengthened friendships and built a genuine sense of belonging within the cohort.
The Year 10 Top End Camp is far more than just a trip it is a transformative experience. Students returned home with a deeper appreciation for Australia’s natural beauty, stronger friendships, and increased confidence in their ability to take on challenges.
We are incredibly proud of the way our Year 10 students conducted themselves throughout the camp, showing enthusiasm, resilience, and a willingness to embrace every opportunity. It is an experience that will no doubt remain a treasured memory for years to come.

Nash (Year 8) Jumps to National Podium Success
Year 8 student Nash recently competed at the Australian Athletics Junior Championships in Brisbane, achieving an outstanding result in the U15 Boys Triple Jump.
Nash secured 3rd place with an impressive final jump of 12.32 metres. This effort not only marked his best jump of the competition but also set a new personal best, moving him into a podium position on his final attempt.
We spoke with Nash following the championships about his experience.
Nash is currently in his third season of athletics and has been training consistently, travelling to Geelong each Tuesday to work with his coach in preparation for competitions.
Reflecting on his achievement, Nash said he felt “really proud” to stand on the podium. He described the overall experience as “very exciting but also nerve-racking,” highlighting the intensity of competing at a national level.
Nash also expressed his gratitude, thanking both his mum and his coach for their ongoing support and guidance. Looking ahead, Nash hopes to continue competing at both state and national levels as he further develops his skills in the sport.

Doco in a Day – College Teams Set to Shine
Doco in a Day – College Teams Set to Shine
Our college community is excited to once again take part in the Doco in a Day competition, a creative and meaningful initiative that combines storytelling with social justice awareness and fundraising.
This year, the college will be proudly represented by four teams of students. Among them is a Year 10 group featuring Bonnie, Indee, Owen and Ollie, who bring valuable experience having participated in the inaugural event last year. Their enthusiasm and insight will no doubt inspire others as they take on the challenge again.
Joining them are three teams of Year 9 students (Sybella, Shecania, Audrey, Olivia, Evie, Alexis, Esther, and Ellen), all of whom share a strong passion for media, storytelling and film production. Their creativity and commitment promise to produce powerful and engaging documentary pieces.
Key Dates
Friday 15 May : Students will complete their 3-minute documentaries during the competition day.
Friday 29 May: Documentaries will be released publicly, beginning the fundraising phase.
Saturday 20 June: Fundraising concludes.
Early Term 3: Awards announced for best documentaries and highest fundraising efforts.
Supporting the Edmund Rice Foundation
Doco in a Day is a vital fundraiser for the Edmund Rice Foundation (ERF), which supports education and assistance for marginalised communities across the world. This includes the Rueben Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, which our college had hoped to visit during this year’s Tanzania trip, unfortunately, cancelled. Supporting this initiative is a meaningful way to maintain our connection to these communities.
How You Can Support
We’re encouraging our community to support the documentaries when they are released on 29 May by viewing and sharing them on social media and contributing financially if possible. Each documentary will conclude with a link to donate to ERF. Your support will help make a positive impact through the work of the ERF.
