Principal's Message

Welcome back to Term 2! I hope that all our students and families had a restful and enjoyable Easter break. It is wonderful to see everyone back, ready to embark on another term filled with learning, growth, and community spirit.

This term begins on a sombre note for Catholics around the world as we mourn the passing of Pope Francis. His legacy of service, compassion, and love has touched many lives, and his teachings will continue to inspire us. Let us honour his memory by embodying these values in our daily lives and interactions.

The enrolment application deadline for Year 7 2026 has been extended. If you're still interested in applying, please visit our website for more information on how to enrol. Joining the Trinity College community offers students a unique educational experience that nurtures their academic, spiritual, and personal development. We look forward to welcoming new students and helping them discover the difference a Trinity education can make.

I am pleased to report that the Top End Tour went exceptionally well. Our staff shared glowing reports about how our students are representing both their school and families with distinction. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and we are proud of their conduct and enthusiasm.

While our students enjoyed an extra week of holidays, our dedicated staff were engaged in professional learning. On Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 April, we collaborated with Mercy Regional College Camperdown staff to share resources and work on implementing the Vic Curriculum 2.0 into all subject areas in preparation for 2026. This collaboration is vital for ensuring that our curriculum remains relevant and effective.

On Thursday 24 April, our staff had the privilege of visiting Budj Bim, located on the shores of Tae Rak (Lake Condah) in Breakaway Creek. The Gunditj Mirring people, traditional owners of Budj Bim, provided us with a guided tour of the area. We learned about the rich history of the Gunditj Mirring people and their remarkable aquaculture system, which has sustained their community for generations. This experience was both educational and inspiring, highlighting the importance of understanding and respecting the heritage of our First Nations people.

As we know, Friday 25 April was ANZAC Day, a significant occasion for all Australians. Our school captains represented Trinity College at the Colac dawn service, paying their respects to the ANZACs and all Australian servicemen and women who have sacrificed for our country. Additionally, we held a liturgy for the entire school on Monday 28 April so that we could commemorate this important occasion as a school. It was a poignant reminder of the values of courage, resilience, and unity that the ANZACs embody, and it was heartening to see our students engage with this important part of our history.

As we move forward into Term 2, let us carry the spirit of Easter with us—renewed, hopeful, and committed to making a positive impact in our community. I look forward to seeing the wonderful achievements and growth that this term will bring.

Warm regards,

Mr Paul Clohesy

Top End Tour 2025

Top End Tour 2025

Trinity College’s Top End Tourists began their journey to the Northern Territory with the sight of Uluru from the plane. The giant sandstone monolith formed the backdrop for the first two nights and the red sand of Yulara was a stark difference from Victoria’s landscape.

Students enjoyed the view of Uluru magically changing colour at sunset while also completing the Mala Walk and trip to Kata Tjuta. All the while students met the tour leader and cook, Brian and Di, and learned about camp life with the set up and pack up of tents. Brian and Di were a wealth of knowledge and became our ‘grandparents’ of the trip.

The group then packed their bags for Kings Canyon on Day 3, with a stunning four-hour walk to the canyon rim being the highlight. Students managed the journey well and were rewarded with spectacular views of the canyon from above.

It was then on to Alice Springs to meet Rex, the snake catcher, who presented a talk on several animals found in the centre of Australia, some of which were found to ‘hunt and kill’, so an excellent warning before continuing our journey north.

The group headed north for two days of travel through the outback with stops at Ti Tree and Daly Waters. Students marvelled at the famous Daly Waters Pub and its unique interior, before relaxing with a swim at Mataranka Thermal Springs on the way to Nitmiluk. We enjoyed the next few days adventuring around Katherine Gorge, learning about the culture and history of this amazing part of our country. We continued north to Kakadu, enjoying the tropical weather, stunning walks and some downtime by the resort pool. The final leg of our journey included Litchfield National Park and a swim at Florence Falls, followed by dinner and a stunning sunset in Darwin at the Mindil Markets.

This trip saw the students come together as one, supporting each other, getting to know one another and connecting with peers and staff without the distraction of mobile phones. They helped each other set up and pack up tents, pack the bus efficiently and be on the road to our next adventure in record time. Staff witnessed the students grow from nervous kids at the airport on Easter Monday morning to confident young people who took on every challenge with ease. The Trinity staff on the trip are so proud of this group of students, they are a credit to our school and their families. An invaluable experience for all involved – 5/5 stars!!

Year 7 Reflection Day

Year 7 Reflection Day

Our Year 7 students recently took part in a Reflection Day on Wednesday 30 April led by the Youth Mission Team. It was both uplifting and engaging. The day was filled with laughter, meaningful discussions, and personal growth. Students participated enthusiastically in a variety of activities, from icebreakers and team games to thought-provoking dramas and small group sharing.

Throughout the day, they explored important themes like self-worth, individuality, empathy, and the power of authentic relationships. It was a joy to see students contribute confidently, connect with others, and form new friendships.

We are incredibly proud of how the Year 7 students embraced the experience with open hearts and minds.

Year 8 Reflection Day

Year 8 Reflection Day

Year 8 students recently participated in a Reflection Day filled with activities aimed at fostering self-awareness, mutual respect, and spiritual growth. The day included ice breakers, charades, small group discussions, dramas, and various interactive activities, all centred around three key themes.

Students engaged in activities that helped them recognise and celebrate their unique gifts, fostering self-respect and confidence. Through discussions and charades, students explored how their actions and words can positively influence others, emphasising the power of empathy and kindness. Dramas and reflective exercises encouraged students to see Jesus as a friend who empowers them to build meaningful relationships, enhancing their spiritual connection.

Year 8 Reflection Day was an enriching experience, helping students appreciate their unique gifts, understand the impact of their relationships, and recognise the importance of spiritual friendship.

Coastal Athletics

Coastal Athletics

We were very lucky on Friday last week with blue skies and no wind for our Coastal Athletics. It was great to have all of our local schools together again and enjoy their day out.

We had many great performances throughout the day from our Trinity students and students from Colac Secondary College, Lavers Hill, Apollo Bay and Lorne. One of the standout performers on the track was Teyvia from Apollo Bay. Teyvia won the 1500m race in a time of 5.24.26 and the 800m in 2.23.03. Teyvia competes for Victoria and won a silver medal in the 800m at Nationals last year and will again represent Victoria in the coming championships. The Trinity winners of the day will be announced during the next College Assembly.

A big thank you to our Sport and Recreation students who ran most of the field events on the day, and the Health and Physical Education (HPE) department. Also, thank you to Michelle Buchanan and our wonderful canteen assistants who did an amazing job feeding all the students for the day. Without all the extra assistance, these days would not be able to be run.

Trinity Lawn Bowlers at State

Trinity Lawn Bowlers at State

The Trinity Lawn Bowlers delivered an impressive performance at the State Lawn Bowls Championships, winning two of their three group matches. They secured tight victories over St Augustine's Kyabram (7-6) and FCJ College Benalla (7-3), with a close 7-8 loss to Wurun Senior Campus – Collingwood College Fitzroy High School.

Their strong showing earned them a spot in the semi-finals, where they faced a tough Vermont side. Despite a valiant effort, Trinity fell short with a 13-3 loss. Reaching the State semi-finals is a fantastic achievement, and we’re incredibly proud of the team. With determination and hard work, we’re confident they’ll return even stronger next year.
