As is always the case, there is much to celebrate and look forward to within our College community.
Next week, we are excited to host our College Open Day, an important event where we welcome prospective students and their families to experience what makes our school unique. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our school values, dedicated staff, and the many opportunities available to students who join our community. We look forward to meeting families and sharing how Trinity College can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students.
A highlight of the past week was my visit to the Year 8 Camp in Creswick. It was wonderful to see our students enjoying each other’s company while taking part in a variety of activities designed to challenge them and encourage personal growth. These experiences outside the classroom play a crucial role in fostering resilience, teamwork, and self-confidence, and it was heartening to witness their enthusiasm and courage.
This week, we bid farewell to two valued members of our staff. Paige Turner and Hayley McNamara. Hayley has been a dedicated member of our College for the past seven years, providing outstanding support to both staff and students in the Learning Diversity area. I have recognised Paige’s contribution to the wellbeing of our students in a previous newsletter. We sincerely thank them both for their contributions and wish them every success in their future endeavors.
A quick reminder to parents who may be collecting their child early from school – please ensure you notify College Reception prior, either via PAM or telephone. Students are required to sign-out via reception and our staff will arrange for your child to be released following your arrival to ensure a smooth and safe departure.
Looking ahead, the first week of next term will be a short one, with both Easter Monday and ANZAC Day falling in the same week, leaving only three school days. As part of the DOBCEL 2035 Strategy, which emphasises collaboration, our staff will engage in professional learning activities during these three days. On 22 and 23 April, Trinity College will join with Mercy Regional College Camperdown to share best practices and explore ways to integrate the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 into our teaching. Additionally, on 24 April, our staff will focus on professional learning around Catholic Identity and its connection with First Nations perspectives. These additional professional learning days mean that students will enjoy an extended three-week break over the upcoming holidays, which we hope will provide families with the opportunity for a well-deserved rest and quality time together.
It was fantastic to see so many parents and carers in attendance at our Unit 3 and Year 12 Student Learning Conversations on Wednesday afternoon and evening this week. A decision was made to bring these conversations forward in the year so that our families of students undertaking Year 12 courses of study have the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher to discuss their progress so far an in a timely manner. I can’t emphasise strongly enough the importance of our partnership in this with families and how the feedback provided and received during these meetings allows us to ensure that our students are given the best possible opportunity to achieve this year.
Finally, we wish to celebrate a fantastic achievement by one of our students. Year 11 student Thomas Russell recently competed in the national championships for ocean kayaking and performed at an exceptional level. His hard work and dedication have earned him a place on the Australian U18 team, which will compete in the World Championships in Portugal later this year. This is an incredible achievement, made even more remarkable as Tom has been selected as a bottom-age participant. On behalf of the entire school community, we congratulate Tom and wish him the very best in the next stage of his journey.
Thank you for your continued support.

Year 10 Camp and Community Services Days
Year 10 Camp and Community Services Days
From Monday 3 March to Friday 7 March, the Year 10 cohort went off to complete a 3-day Adventure Camp at Eumerella in Anglesea. The group was divided into two camps: Camp 1 attended from Monday to Wednesday, followed by a community service day on Friday, while Camp 2 began the week with community service on Monday before heading to camp from Wednesday to Friday.
On the first day, students travelled to Lorne to complete the Live Wire high ropes course, followed by lunch on the Lorne foreshore. They then visited Aireys Inlet Lighthouse before setting up camp in Anglesea. Over the next two nights, students had to prepare and cook their meals in cooking groups and camp in tents. The activities on offer to the students were a range of water sports such as surfing, stand-up paddle boarding and surf kayaking, along with horse riding and bushwalking. This enriching experience, guided by teachers, encouraged students to step out of their comfort zones, overcome challenges and build confidence.
The students also took part in community service days at Trinity, beginning with participating in a community cook, preparing meals to stock St Vinnies foodbank for those in need. They then visited the residents of Mercy Place Colac to connect with people in the community. To conclude the day, students attended a session with St Kilda football legend Steve Baker on Resilience, Determination and Grit.
A total of 327 meals have been delivered to St Vinnies from our Year 10 Community Cook. What an amazing effort by everyone involved. As a school community we should be proud of what the staff and students have accomplished.

Year 11 Retreat
Year 11 Retreat
What a wonderful experience our Year 11 students had on Retreat. We made the long journey to Campaspe Downs camp near Kyneton where we were greeted by enthusiastic staff and a beautiful setting. We were blessed with warm weather while we were away (but as we all know the rain would’ve been very welcome…).
After a tour of camp, students jumped straight into activities Wednesday afternoon. They challenged themselves by participating in the Giant Swing, hoisting themselves into the air then pulling a cord that sent them flying! Others raced on a flying fox, abseiled down a wall, took a ‘Leap of Faith’ jumping from a pole and paired up to take a leisurely canoe around the lake.
Thursday, we welcomed our guest speaker Luke Kennedy who spent the day with students talking about his own personal journey and his road to redemption. His story inspired our students, willing them to think about their own journey and where they are headed. He discussed our themes of gratitude and empathy, helping others and becoming the best version of ourselves.
Students enjoyed the activities across the three days as well as having time to connect with their peers and teachers. The feedback from students and staff has been extremely positive. This was a wonderful experience for all and made staff proud to be the teachers of such an amazing group of young people.

Year 12 Retreat
Year 12 Retreat
The Year 12 annual Retreat was full of outdoor initiatives and activities enjoyed by all in the beautiful surrounds of the Beaufort hills. Students participated in small and large group activities that are designed to provide time for personal growth, deeper connections with peers, faith and reflection outside the normal school routine.
One of the highlights was the students dressing up in eccentric op shop clothes for the evening out. They absolutely sparkled and looked amazing, making an evening full of laughter, joy and a sense of unity. It was a perfect representation of the fun and growth the students were experiencing together. Well done and thank you to all involved.

Year 12 VM/VPC Students Complete Barista Course
On Thursday 13 March, 16 of the Year 12 VM/VPC students were involved in a hands-on Barista Coffee course, learning the art of coffee making. They mastered a range of coffee styles, from lattes and cappuccinos to flat whites, while also gaining skills in grinding beans and frothing milk.
Beyond the practical techniques, students explored the history behind how coffee became the drink we see today and proper storage methods to maintain quality. To round off the experience, they learned how to clean and maintain the coffee machine. Upon completion, each student received a certificate, marking their achievement in barista training.

- Apollo Bay - 271
- Lorne - 96
In addition to the overall team success, Trinity had several standout individual performances, with age group champions in the junior divisions:

Trinity College Colac Wellbeing
Trinity College Colac Wellbeing
Following on from our last wellbeing edition, we are now diving deeper into the Yellow Zone of Regulation.
The Yellow Zone

The Yellow Zone describes when our energy is higher and our internal state starts to elevate. Our emotions get a little stronger. We may be experiencing stress, frustration, anxiety, excitement, silliness, confusion, nervousness, be overwhelmed, or have the wiggles when in the Yellow Zone.
In the Yellow Zone we may need to take action to regulate to manage our energy and feelings as they get stronger. For example, if we are feeling energetic at the lunch table it helps to use caution and take a deep breath, so we do not spill something.
If we are feeling nervous before our performance, we can slow down our racing thoughts and speech by using a mindfulness tool. When we are frustrated, and pause to take notice, we can decide to take a break to collect ourselves before we say something we regret.

Sustainability
Sustainability
On Saturday 22 March, we will see individuals and communities all around the globe celebrating two very important sustainability events.
Firstly, World Water Day is an important reminder of the vital role water plays in our daily lives and the challenges many communities face in accessing clean water. World Water Day encourages people to protect and preserve water resources. It is a day to raise awareness about water conservation, pollution and the need for sustainable water management so that we can better understand the value of water to ensure that future generations have access to this precious resource.
Did you know....
- 2.1 billion people globally do not have access to safely managed drinking water (World Health Organisation, 2020)
- Climate change is expected to affect half of the world's population by 2030, potentially worsening water scarcity and extreme weather events like floods and droughts (United Nations, 2020)
- Australians use approximately 340 liters of water per person per day for domestic purposes, including drinking, cooking, cleaning and irrigation (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2020)
- The average Australian household uses about 200,000 liters of water annually, mainly for showers, laundry and toilet flushing (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2020)
- In recent years, Australians have reduced their water consumption by around 25% per person compared to 2004 levels, largely due to better water-saving technologies, awareness campaigns and drought experiences (Australian Water Association, 2020)
Secondly, we’re inviting the Trinity community to take part in Earth Hour by turning off the lights for one hour this Saturday 22 March from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. More information can be found here: https://www.earthhour.org.au/
The purpose of Earth Hour is to raise global awareness about climate change and the importance of environmental sustainability. Individuals, businesses, and communities participating together in this event engage in collective action to reduce energy consumption and highlight the need for urgent environmental action. At home, Earth Hour is a great opportunity to unplug from screens, reduce energy consumption and reflect on the importance of global climate action. At schools, or in communities, Earth Hour encourages us to trial more sustainable habits, employ mindful and electricity-free methods of education and connect with each other and nature while also raising awareness of global climate action. Teachers and classes across Trinity College will be involved, where possible, in the school’s version of Earth Hour on Friday 21 March, switching off unessential technology for an hour to promote appreciation of simple and achievable methods of reducing our negative impacts on the environment.
