Principal's Message
As we begin a new school year, I extend a warm welcome to all students and families, both those returning to our community and those joining us for the first time. Our 2026 student leaders have chosen a powerful and fitting theme for the year: “In Unity We Grow.” This message reflects the heart of our Trinity community and reminds us that, together, we can support one another in learning, flourishing, and striving toward our best.
We have already enjoyed a wonderful and uplifting start to the year. Our annual Presentation Assembly was a highlight, as we celebrated the achievements of our 2025 students and acknowledged the dedication and effort behind their success. We were also privileged to hear from our 2020 School Captain, Taylah Hassett, who delivered an outstanding keynote address.
Taylah spoke with great authenticity about the lasting influence Trinity College has had on her life beyond school. She shared that, “Trinity will always be more than just a school to me. It was a place where I felt known, supported, challenged and encouraged. It was a community, and that sense of belonging played a huge role in shaping my confidence, my direction, and the choices I’ve made since leaving.”
She reflected on how the role of challenge, uncertainty, and mistakes shaped her growth, developing qualities such as resilience, adaptability, and self-belief. Taylah now balances the demands of nursing and midwifery with her role as Head Coach of the Geelong VFLW team at just 22 years of age. A remarkable achievement that clearly demonstrates the strength of character she spoke about. Her message was inspiring and deeply appreciated by both students and staff.
This year has also seen the arrival of several new staff members who have already begun contributing to our vibrant community. We welcome Lachlan Bail, Kaitlyn George, Alex Guedes, Kate McCormick and Louella Tomlinson to our teaching team. Michelle Carson joins Learning Support, Ciara Downard begins as our new Sports Trainee, and Mark Robinson joins our Maintenance team on a part-time basis.
Alongside new staff, we were delighted to welcome 130 Year 7 students, as well as students from other year levels. This week, our Year 7s travelled to Kangaroobie Camp in Princetown for three days of adventure, fun and friendship-building. It was wonderful to see them embracing the experience with such enthusiasm. My sincere thanks go to the dedicated staff who generously gave their time to ensure the camp's success.
We have also seen some changes within our leadership structure for 2026. Mr Matthew Edwards (Rathgeber) has transitioned from Head of Students to Director of Learning, with a focus on Years 7–9. Mrs Victoria Dambo, an experienced and highly capable Year Level Coordinator, has stepped seamlessly into the role of Head of Students. We also congratulate Mr Lachlan Bail on taking up the Year 8 Coordinator position.
This week, we inducted our new Year 7–11 leaders and formally welcomed our new staff at our Commencement Masses. Each year, the gathering at St Mary’s is a meaningful tradition and, for many students, a first opportunity to experience the church's beauty and calm. Fr Andrew always ensures that everyone feels welcome and at ease. These celebrations set a reflective and hopeful tone as we begin the school year together.
We know that starting a new year or a new school can be challenging for some students. Please remember that you are not alone in navigating this transition. If you or your child needs support at any stage, reach out to their Homeroom Mentor, subject teachers or Year Level Coordinator. We are here to help.
As we embark on the year ahead, I wish every student a successful and fulfilling journey. At the Presentation Assembly, I shared the message that while we are all born with unique talents and potential, we each have the capacity to work hard, strive to grow, commit to being the best learners we can be, and, more importantly, the best people we can be.
In unity, we truly grow.
Warm regards,
Mr Paul Clohesy
Principal

Welcome to the 2026 Academic Year
Welcome to the 2026 Academic Year
As we commence the 2026 academic year, we warmly welcome our families to the College. We hope you enjoyed a restful break and are looking forward to another year of learning, growth, and connection within our community. We are excited to continue working in partnership with our families to support the wellbeing and learning of every student.
Clear, timely, and consistent communication remains a key priority for us as a college. We know that strong communication between home and school plays an important role in supporting students to thrive, and we are always looking for ways to improve how we share information with our families.
SIMON is the College’s Learning Management System, used to support and connect families with their child's learning and to receive formal communications from the College. In 2026, the college will be introducing SIMON electronic letters as our primary method of formal communication with families. These electronic letters will be used to communicate important information related to student wellbeing and learning, ensuring families receive relevant updates clearly and consistently.
All College correspondence will be accessible through the Parent Access Module (PAM), providing families with a single, central place to view communications. We encourage families to regularly check PAM to stay informed and connected with college updates throughout the year.
If you experience any issues accessing PAM or have difficulty viewing College communications, please get in touch with the College for assistance. More information is available on the College website .
Upcoming events: NAPLAN 2026
Our annual NAPLAN tests for Years 7 and 9 students will be held over three days, from 11 to 16 March.
NAPLAN is a series of tests that assess your child's literacy and numeracy skills. These skills are crucial for their progress in both school and life.
This year, your child will participate in NAPLAN tests covering reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar, punctuation), and numeracy.
It's important to know that NAPLAN tests are just one part of how we evaluate and report on your child's progress. They complement teachers' ongoing assessments to understand your child's performance throughout the school year.
The results of these tests provide valuable insights into how individual students are doing at the time of testing. However, they don't replace the continuous assessments teachers carry out to monitor and support your child's development.
If you prefer to access this information in a language other than English, please visit the following website:
Information for parents and carers - Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority
Please find below the NAPLAN timetable for Year 7 and 9 students:
| Date | Lesson | Test | Length of test |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wednesday 11 March | 1 | Writing | 42 minutes |
| Friday 13 March | Homeroom & 1 | Reading | 65 minutes |
| Friday 13 March | 3 | Conventions of Language | 45 minutes |
| Monday 16 March | Homeroom & 1 | Numeracy | 65 minutes |
If you have any questions, please get in touch with the College’s NAPLAN coordinator and Director of Learning (7 to 9), Mr Matt Edwards: mrathgeber@tcc.vic.edu.au

Teaching and Learning
Welcome Back to a New Year of Learning
Welcome Back to a New Year of Learning
Welcome back to the start of a new school year. We extend a warm welcome to all students and families and look forward to a year focused on growth, high expectations, and positive learning partnerships. A warm welcome to Mr Matt Edwards to the Teaching and Learning team for 2026 as Director of Learning (Years 7-9).
This year, we encourage all students to aim for continuous improvement in their learning. Growth looks different for every learner, but our shared goal is for students to challenge themselves, take pride in their efforts, and strive to meet high expectations both academically and personally.
Clear expectations and shared understanding are essential in building strong partnerships between school and home. When students, families, and teachers are aligned, students are best placed to engage confidently and take ownership of their learning.
For students undertaking VCE, all families must understand the program's requirements, including assessment expectations, study habits, and the importance of completing homework regularly and consistently.
Homework plays a vital role in reinforcing learning, developing independent study skills, and preparing students for future pathways. VCE teachers will focus on 'Evidence of Learning Tasks' to ensure our students achieve Satisfactory results, supported by suitable evidence, within a manageable timeframe.
Information for Year Levels:
Year 12 Information Session: Wednesday 11 February 6pm
Year 7 information: Monday 16 February 6pm
Information for students in Years 8 to 11 will be shared with families via PAM resources and the college website, while Year 7 and Year 12 families attend information evenings. These sessions will outline learning expectations, course requirements, and key routines that support student success. All information will be available on PAM for further reference.
We look forward to working closely with our students and families throughout the year, and thank you for your ongoing support as we strive for a successful and rewarding year ahead.
Mrs Karen A Hart
Director of Learning (Years 10-12)

Homework Expectations
Homework Expectations
The purpose of homework at Trinity College is to consolidate prior learning, assess students' understanding of prior content, and embed skills and knowledge in long-term memory.
Homework plays a vital role in reinforcing classroom learning and is most effective when supported through a strong partnership between the school and families to support student success.
This year, we will send electronic letters home via PAM when students do not submit homework by the due date. For students in Years 10-12, not submitting homework by the due date will also result in a Wednesday lunchtime catch-up detention to complete and submit the homework.
Therefore, please work with your child to ensure homework is submitted on time.

Learning Leader

Catholic Identity
Catholic Identity
Catholic Identity
Earlier this week, we gathered at St Mary's Parish to celebrate our Trinity community and to ask for God's blessing on the year to come. Years 10, 11, and 12 students attended the first mass, and in the afternoon, Years 7-9 travelled to the parish for the second mass, both presided over by Father Andrew with support from the Year 12 Student Leaders.
Our college’s 2026 theme - 'In Unity We Grow' - was a focal point of the masses, and was illustrated through the prayers and reading, which included the Parable of the Lost Sheep from the Gospel of Matthew. Father Andrew explored this idea further in his homily, emphasising to the students, "never leave anyone behind."
2026 Senior School Immersion - Tanzania
We are excited to announce that our Tanzania Immersion will be returning in 2026. It last ran in 2019 as a Year 12 alternative to 'Schoolies' . This year, the program has been offered to Year 11 and Year 12 students as a senior school immersion.
More information on fundraising initiatives will be released as the year progresses. Still, for now, we are delighted to share that a number of our senior students will have the opportunity to participate in a meaningful immersion in the city of Arusha (Northern Tanzania) at the School of St Jude and Edmund Rice Sinon Secondary School in November and December this year.
An evening with Gemma Sisia OAM, founder of the School of St Jude (Tanzania)
Along with the return of our Tanzania Immersion, Trinity is also hosting Gemma Sisia, founder of the School of St Jude, for a special community event on Thursday, 19 February.
Gemma will be sharing the story of how a young woman from rural NSW went on to found a school that offers a liberating education to the poorest and brightest children in Arusha, providing them with opportunities for a future that would not otherwise be possible. Gemma will also be joined by one of her graduates, Faith Samwel, who will share her own story of how her life was transformed through the education provided by St Jude's.

Wellbeing
Director of Wellbeing Update
Director of Wellbeing Update
We warmly welcome all parents and carers to the 2026 school year and thank you for your ongoing partnership in supporting our students. It has been wonderful to see students wearing their uniforms neatly and with pride.
Wearing our formal uniform fosters a sense of equality and belonging and reflects the high expectations and values of our school community. It promotes a positive learning environment and maintains the professionalism we expect during the school day. For these reasons, a formal uniform is required unless students have a scheduled sport class. We ask for your support in ensuring uniform expectations are met. Please note that black socks are not permitted, and jewellery is limited to earrings, one ring, one bracelet and a necklace. Nose and eyebrow piercings are not allowed. Full uniform requirements are available on our website, and the Head of Students or Director of Wellbeing are always happy to assist with any questions.
Attendance is vital to every student’s success, and we encourage all families to prioritise consistent, daily attendance. Being present each day helps students stay connected, engaged, and confident in their learning. This includes attending our key College events, such as swimming sports, which are important opportunities for building school spirit, belonging, and community pride. We appreciate your support in ensuring students arrive on time and participate fully in all aspects of school life.
We are pleased to introduce Mrs Victoria (Vicki) Dambo as our Head of Students for 2026. Vicki works closely with the Year Level Coordinators to support student engagement and behaviour throughout the school day. We encourage all families to familiarise themselves with our Code of Conduct , which outlines the expectations, rules and responsibilities that guide our community and reflect our school values.
We are also excited to be introducing Wellio to our Year 7–10 students this year. This platform will be used in Pastoral Care/iLEAP lessons to help strengthen students’ wellbeing, resilience, and confidence. If you have any questions about Wellio, please reach out to your child’s Year Level Coordinator or the Director of Wellbeing.
In addition, we encourage families to use the SchoolTV platform, an important resource we promote to support students' well-being and engagement. Featuring expert insights from Dr Michael Carr-Gregg and others, SchoolTV provides up-to-date guidance on topics such as transition, positive parenting, and supporting adolescent mental health. The platform can be accessed through our school website.
Finally, we are delighted to introduce our 2026 wellbeing practitioner team: Sarah Weiss, Matt Millen, Emma Mezzatesta, and Debbie McIntyre. We look forward to working alongside you throughout the year to support the wellbeing and growth of every student.

The wellbeing team is looking forward to supporting students and their families throughout the 2026 school year. We are excited to be running several evidence-based small groups, including Peaceful Teens and Tuning into Teens. Further information will be sent directly to families via email.
If you have any concerns about your young person, we encourage you to reach out early for a confidential discussion via email at wellbeing@tcc.vic.edu.au or by phone at 5233 9200.

Director of Wellbeing

College News
Presentation Assembly
Presentation Assembly
It was a true pleasure to have some of our Class of 2025 graduates return to celebrate their exceptional achievements with the entire College community during the Presentation Assembly. These remarkable individuals have not only demonstrated outstanding character, skills, and knowledge, but they also embody the values and qualities that Trinity College strives to instil in all its students. Their success serves as an inspiring example of the difference a Trinity education can make, and it was a privilege to honour their journey with us.
2025 High Achievers

As announced late last year, Matilda Salmon has been named the College Dux for 2025. With an impressive ATAR score of 95.1, she has demonstrated that with dedication and commitment, outstanding results are within reach. This award, sponsored by Vista Financial Group, includes a $300 financial incentive, presented by the CEO of Vista Financial Group and our School Advisory Committee Chairperson, Mrs Kate Borch.
The VCE VM Excellence Award recipient, Thomas Pipps, was acknowledged for his outstanding achievement. The Rotary Club of Colac sponsors this award in conjunction with Trinity College and presents a $300 cheque.
Subject Excellence Awards
The Subject Excellence Awards recognise students who demonstrate outstanding performance in a subject across all classes. Recipients demonstrate strong knowledge and skills, a strong commitment to their studies, positive participation, and very high assessment results.
The first category highlights the subjects in Units 3 and 4. Many Year 11 students completed these Year 12-level subjects, and those who earned an Academic Award are especially commendable, as their results surpassed those of the Year 12 students in the same subjects.
The Unit 3/4 Subject Excellence Awards were presented to Marissa (Year 11) for Art & Creative Practice, Neve (Year 11) for Art Making & Exhibiting, Ned (Year 11) for Mathematical Methods, and Thomas (Year 11) for Systems Engineering.
Many of our students begin their VCE program in Year 10 through accelerated study of Units 1 and 2. Some of our Year 10 students performed exceptionally well in these VCE subjects and have been awarded the Subject Excellence Award, ahead of Year 11 students studying the same units.
The Units 1/2 Subject Excellence Awards were presented to Lilli (Year 10) for General Mathematics, Samuel (Year 10) for History, Emika (Year 10) for Legal Studies, and Lily (Year 10) for Psychology.
Each year level was represented by a deserving student who was recognised with the Trinity Difference Award. This award is the highest honour at each year level. It is presented to the student who earns the most Knowledge, Character, and Skill Awards, along with other special recognitions throughout the year. This student best represents the qualities of a Trinity person, demonstrating courage, resilience, spirituality, compassion, gratitude, respect, a strong commitment to learning, and the character and skills to make a positive difference. Congratulations to Charly Flaxman (Year 12), Ned (Year 11), Kieley (Year 10), Charli (Year 9), Olivia (Year 8), and joint winners Nash and Max (Year 7).
The celebration of personal excellence continued with a speech from our guest speaker, past student and 2020 College Captain, Taylah Hassett, before our special visitors joined staff for morning tea. Thank you to our remarkable graduates, guests, and students for showcasing the Trinity difference and inspiring everyone to give their best this year.

Year 7 Camp
Year 7 Camp
On Wednesday, 4 February, students and staff headed off to Kangaroobie Camp in Princetown, excited for their first Year 7 Camp experience. Along the way, students enjoyed lunch at Simpson before arriving at camp ready for the afternoon’s activities. The afternoon was filled with fun at the river, where students were able to build sandcastles, play cricket, and cool off with a swim. They walked to and from the river, even completing a river crossing by raft. An adventurous start to the trip.
That evening, students embarked on a guided night walk with Matt from Kangaroobie, learning about the stars above and sharing a few ghost stories along the way—the perfect way to end a big first day.
Thursday was packed with action and teamwork as students rotated through their first group activities. From tackling the obstacle course and testing their resilience in Survivor, to challenging themselves in Life & Death, GOS, participating in the farm tour, and the ever-popular canoeing, there was something for everyone. That night, students were joined by our Year 12 Leaders for dinner and a range of fun activities, providing great opportunities for connection, leadership, and plenty of laughs.
Friday morning began with packing and cleaning before students completed their final two activities. The bus ride home was noticeably quieter than the journey there, with many very tired (but happy) students and staff catching up on some well-earned rest.
Upon returning to school, many students were warmly welcomed by their families and were excited to share stories from their first Trinity Camp.
A big thank you to all staff who generously gave their time and energy to make the camp such a success. Our students represented themselves and the College wonderfully and should be congratulated on completing their very first Year 7 Camp.

An Evening with Gemma Sisia of The School of St Jude

We are excited to share that we are hosting a special event to learn about The School of St Jude in Tanzania on Thursday 19 February in the Jubilee Centre and we’d love you to join us!
Founded by Australian humanitarian Gemma Sisia in 2002, The School of St Jude is one of the largest charity schools in Africa, providing free scholarships to 100% of its 1,800 primary and secondary school students every year. Gemma and a graduate of the school, Faith Mnyenyel, will be joining us to share firsthand the incredible impact the school has had on students, the local community and Tanzania thanks to the generosity of Australians who contribute to 92% of all revenue raised.
The school not only provides education but plays a significant role improving economic, social and health outcomes for families. The school supports the local community through jobs, where 98% of all staff are Tanzanians. St Jude’s graduates who have committed to a year of community service have taught more than 112,000 students at local government schools over the years. Ninety-seven cents in every dollar raised goes towards the operational costs of running the school.
If you’d like to attend, hear the hope and join the St Jude’s journey, please book your ticket here .
