Principal's Message
As we approach the end of the final week of Term 1, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on what has been an incredibly busy and rewarding term. Our students have demonstrated great dedication and commitment to their studies, extracurricular activities and personal growth. We are immensely proud of their efforts to always strive to be and do their best.
Open Day
Last week, we were delighted to welcome both prospective and current families to our highly successful Open Day. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our vibrant school community, with the grounds looking magnificent and a warm, welcoming atmosphere throughout the day. Our student-led tours in the morning gave visitors a firsthand experience of school life in action, with our student guides doing an exceptional job. In the afternoon, both staff and students led engaging tours that were well attended and greatly enjoyed. For those who were unable to join us, we continue to offer College Tours. Please visit the Trinity website to register.
Staffing Changes
This week, we say farewell to Ms Rachel McGennisken, who has been an outstanding Deputy Principal at Trinity since 2022. Rachel has made an invaluable contribution to our school community, and while we are sad to see her go, we are incredibly proud of her as she embarks on her new role as Principal at Emmanuel College in Warrnambool. We wish her every success in this new and exciting chapter of her career.
We will also be saying goodbye to Ms Ky Millar, who has been with us for this term, sharing her extensive knowledge and expertise in teaching Indonesian. We are grateful for the impact she has made in such a short time and wish her all the best for the future. As we actively seek a new Indonesian teacher, we are pleased to announce that Mrs Marg Lugg will be stepping into this role for Term 2.
Additionally, after 17 years of dedicated service to Trinity College in the finance department, Mrs Sally O'Sullivan has informed us of her upcoming retirement. Sally has been an integral part of our school, demonstrating outstanding loyalty and commitment. We sincerely thank her for all she has done for our community and wish her all the very best as she transitions into this next phase of her life. Sally will be finishing in early June, and we will ensure we take the time to celebrate her contributions before then.
Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome a new member to our Wellbeing Team in Term 2. Ms Emma Mezzatesta will be joining us for three days a week. Emma brings experience from Headspace, MacKillop Family Services and the Department of Human Services. Emma’s expertise and passion for student wellbeing will be a great asset to our school community, ensuring that our students continue to receive outstanding support.
End of Term and Easter Liturgy
Term 1 has certainly flown by, and I know that both students and staff are looking forward to a well-earned break. We will conclude the term with a special Easter Liturgy, focusing on the Christian Easter story and the profound sacrifice Jesus made for us through His death and resurrection. This is a meaningful time for reflection, and I encourage our students and families to embrace the spirit of Easter throughout the holiday period.
Extended Break and Top End Trip
I hope all our students and families enjoy the opportunity to spend quality time together over the holidays. With the professional learning work staff will be undertaking alongside Mercy Regional College in the first week of Term 2, students will benefit from an extended break before returning refreshed and ready for the term ahead.
While most students enjoy this extended holiday, we extend our best wishes to the 43 Year 10 students and five staff members embarking on the Top End trip. This will undoubtedly be an incredible experience, filled with learning and adventure. We look forward to hearing all about their journey upon their return.
A Thank You to Our Families
Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all our families for their ongoing support throughout the term. Your partnership with the school is invaluable, and we deeply appreciate your commitment to your child’s education.
Wishing you all a safe, restful, and joyous Easter with your loved ones.
God bless,
Mr Paul Clohesy

Thank You and Farewell
Thank You and Farewell
With deep gratitude and fondness, I write this message as I prepare to conclude my time at Trinity College. While I am excited about the journey ahead, leaving Trinity is not without a sense of sadness. My time at Trinity has been one of great personal joy, of inspiring professional collaboration, and of great connection to families and the community in the education and formation of a wonderful community of students.
It has been a privilege to work alongside dedicated leaders, teachers and support staff who tirelessly nurture and challenge students to be their very best. Their passion for education and their unwavering care for every student is a hallmark of this College, and I thank them for their support and deep investment in all that we strive to do.
To the families of Trinity College, I am deeply grateful for your trust and partnership. Your support is essential in shaping the learning and growth of our students and it has been an honour to walk alongside you on this journey.
To our students, you are the heart of this College. It has been a joy to witness your achievements, resilience and kindness. Whether in the classroom, on the sporting field, in service to others, or through artistic and cultural pursuits, you continue to make Trinity proud. I encourage you to remain committed to your goals, embrace challenges as opportunities, and always strive to be people of integrity, compassion and courage. You are ambassadors not only of Trinity College but of the Colac community, and I have no doubt that you will continue to make a difference in the world.
As I move into this next chapter, I carry with me cherished memories and immense gratitude for all that Trinity College has meant to me.
May God bless you all abundantly in the years ahead.

College Assembly
College Assembly
The College Assembly held on Tuesday 25 March, was a unique and memorable event. Unlike previous assemblies, this one took place outdoors, creating a refreshing change of atmosphere. An exciting moment of the event was the announcement of the student leaders for 2025, marking the beginning of their leadership journey.
Our student leaders from Years 7 to 11 were officially recognized for their willingness to serve in leadership roles. After the example of Jesus, may they always be people of hope, looking for the best in themselves and others. Year 8 Camp
Year 8 Camp
From Monday 17 March to Wednesday 19 March, our Year 8 cohort embarked on an unforgettable adventure at Log Cabin Camp in Creswick. Over three action-packed days, students were challenged to step outside their comfort zones, work together as a team, and build trust in their peers—especially when taking on adrenaline-pumping activities high above the ground.
Among the many camp highlights was the Leap of Faith, where students bravely climbed a 10-metre platform before making a daring jump while their peers belayed them. The zipline brought both excitement and camaraderie as students tackled different challenges mid-air, while the giant swing offered an exhilarating 17-metre drop, with teammates pulling each other into the sky before the thrilling release.
Beyond the high-flying activities, students also embraced canoeing, tested their aim in archery, enjoyed a round of frisbee golf and navigated through orienteering challenges. The fun continued into the evenings, with a night walk on the first night and an entertaining music trivia showdown on the second night, where students took on their teachers in a friendly competition.
The staff at Log Cabin Camp thoroughly enjoyed hosting our Trinity Year 8 students and sent them off with big smiles all around. It was a fantastic experience filled with adventure, teamwork and plenty of unforgettable memories!

Year 10 Careers Day
Year 10 Careers Day
On Monday 24 March, Trinity College hosted its highly anticipated Year 10 Careers Day, a pivotal program designed to guide our senior students towards their future pathways. This year, our dedicated careers team orchestrated an enriching experience, welcoming nearly 50 esteemed professionals to our campus. These professionals served not only to inspire but also to provide invaluable guidance as our students embarked on their initial steps towards their career aspirations.
A highlight of the day was the insightful keynote address delivered by Joshua McGuane, a distinguished alumnus from the Class of 2011, currently serving as Vice President Field Operations - APAC at Ticketmaster. Joshua's address centred around our theme, 'If I could tell myself when I was in Year 10', offering profound advice tailored to resonate with our students, encouraging thoughtful reflection on their futures.
Following the keynote, Joshua facilitated a Q&A panel featuring industry leaders: Liam McCullagh (Radio News Media Journalist), Donna Hay (Human Resources Spence Construction), Dr Tom Daffy (Chiropractor) and Simone Hay (Talk To Me Allied Health). The panellists shared invaluable lessons learned from their career journeys, emphasizing key takeaways such as seizing opportunities, embracing challenges for personal growth, fostering a commitment to lifelong learning and leveraging mentorship and feedback for continuous improvement.
Throughout the day, students engaged in a series of structured 'speed dating' style interviews with representatives from diverse local industries. This format allowed students to gain firsthand insights into various professions, posing thoughtful questions such as those concerning job satisfaction, necessary qualifications, essential skills for success, career pathways and practical advice for aspiring professionals.
A dedicated session on Work Experience further equipped students with essential insights into employer expectations, effective workplace conduct, skills development and the broader benefits of gaining practical experience in their chosen fields. The event culminated in student self-reflection sessions and the distribution of comprehensive Work Experience packs, empowering our students to further explore and prepare for their future career endeavours.
The Work Experience program is a valuable opportunity for students to prepare for life beyond school. It allows them to:
- Explore potential career paths
- Network with professionals and ask questions
- Develop new skills
- Make informed decisions about courses and careers
- Gain hands-on workplace experience
- Understand work-related issues
- Enhance communication skills
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our esteemed guests and the broader community whose unwavering support ensures that Trinity College Colac remains steadfast in its commitment to guiding our students towards achieving their career aspirations. Together, we strive to empower every student to 'Get where they want to go' upon completing their secondary education with us.

Youth Sunday Music Session
Youth Sunday Music Session
On 22 March at Lake View Cafe, The Eliminations, alongside some other talented youth musicians and bands, played to a delighted audience of families, friends and the wider Colac community. It was a pleasant afternoon of music as we were blessed with beautiful, sunny weather.
The event was one of the many youth activities and events organised by the Colac Otway Shire this year. It began with some solo performances and smaller group performances, including Trinity performers Jesse, Audrey and Sarah as The Zodiacs. This was followed by The Eliminations and concluded with a crazy heavy metal band that shook the roof with their skilful playing.

Greater Western (GW) Swimming
Greater Western (GW) Swimming
Trinity’s swim team had a fantastic day at the GW Swimming Championships in Horsham, demonstrating skill, determination and great sportsmanship throughout the competition. To ensure our athletes were well-rested and ready to perform at their best, we travelled to Horsham the day before and stayed overnight, avoiding a gruelling 4:00am departure on competition day.
Our students gave their all in the pool, competing with enthusiasm and representing Trinity with pride. Among the many outstanding performances, the highlight of the day was the Year 7 Boys 12-13 Years Freestyle Relay team. Comprising Leo, Nash, Ted and Walker, the team secured a well-earned third place medal in an incredibly close finish—crossing the line just 20cm ahead of the competition!
Beyond the pool, our swimmers displayed exemplary behaviour and a positive attitude, reinforcing the values of sportsmanship and camaraderie that we hold dear at Trinity. We are incredibly proud of all our competitors for their hard work, perseverance and team spirit.
A huge congratulations to all our swimmers for their fantastic efforts. We look forward to more outstanding performances in the future!

Mid Semester Reports and Student Learning Conversations
As the term draws to a close, students are completing a range of assessment tasks ahead of staff finalising Mid-Semester Reports. These reports will be released in Week 1 of Term 2. The release of reports will coincide with the opening of the Student Learning Conversations (SLCs) booking system via PAM.

Student Learning Conversations will take place on Wednesday 7 May between 11:00am and 6:30pm. This will be a student-free day and we encourage all students to attend their conversations along with a parent or carer. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to celebrate learning progress from Term 1 and to discuss learning goals and areas of focus moving into Term 2.
Families will be able to make bookings with subject teachers and Homeroom Mentors. If you have significant concerns you would like to discuss, you are also welcome to make a booking with your child’s Year Level Coordinator.

Now that we’ve explored the different stages of emotional regulation, our upcoming newsletters will focus on enhancing your knowledge and tools for emotional intelligence and coaching.
Emotional Intelligence-What is it?
Emotional intelligence is the ability to:
- identify and understand your own emotions
- understand others' emotions and respond with empathy
- use your emotional awareness to guide you when solving problems
- deal with frustration and be able to wait to get what you want
- keep distress from overwhelming your ability to think
- be in control of how and when you express feelings
Emotional Coaching-Helpful Tips
- Become aware of the young person's emotion, especially if it is of a lower intensity (such as disappointment or frustration)
- View their emotions as opportunities for connecting and teaching
- Listen and accept their emotions: avoid judgement
- Help your teen to describe how they feel: verbally label emotions
- If appropriate, help them to problem-solve: negotiate boundaries
Cyber Safety

Many of today’s parents grew up in a world devoid of technologies and often have little knowledge of how best to assist and guide their children. In today’s digital world, 90 percent of a child’s socialisation occurs online. As the range of social media platforms grows, so too does the opportunity for bullying and stalking. Often, parents have no idea their child is a victim, and kids are unlikely to report it for fear of losing access to their technology, which to them, is the equivalent of "social death”.
Young people today are growing up in an increasingly connected world where technology is part of their everyday lives– for learning, socialising, and entertainment. While the digital world offers enormous benefits, it also comes with serious risks. From cyberbullying and online predators to inappropriate content and screen time concerns, navigating the online environment can be challenging for young people and their families.
Cybersafety is not just about blocking access, it's about empowering young people with the knowledge and skills they need to use technology responsibly and safely. This includes understanding privacy settings, recognising scams, and developing healthy digital habits. At the same time, it's important for parents and caregivers to stay informed, have open and judgement-free conversations with their children, and lead by example through positive online behaviour.
In today's digital age, safeguarding a child's wellbeing must also include protecting their online life. This edition of SchoolTV will help you better understand the digital landscape your child is navigating and offer practical strategies to help them stay safe, confident and in control online.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.
